The quietest full size backstop ever!

That mesh is interesting. No big holes made from repeatedly targeting the same spot? May need to try that on my own rubber mulch traps. Matter of fact I have a new box one that needs to be done.

Same thought I got when I saw the setup. No big holes after years shooting around the same spot......? That would be my first consern, but now it`t proved otherwise. Nice!

The new mesh is over the old mesh. The old mesh is destroyed by the pellets...

Indeed! *However, he did say 3 years, that's pretty impressive. I’m probably gonna stick with cardboard then. It holds very well for a few sessions and I keep a fresh supply on hand. The Shoot ‘n See stickers stick right on it.

Go to the garden section in places like Home Depot.

Home Depot in my area does not carry rubber mulch.

Lowes does.

I've found out that every Home Depot's inventory varies. Ours does carry the mulch. One way to check is to go online, select an item, then check to see if they will do an in-store pick-up option for your selected store. If not, that means they don't carry it ... even though the next store over might.

True, and unfortunately this is what we find around here. Not only is everything "Out of Stock Online" and "Not Available in Stores," look at the prices to fill a backstop:

I added a 2nd layer of mesh after the hole got roughly 12''x12''. Only a small amount of mulch actually fell out. Maybe a dinner plate full. I attribute this to the depth of the mound of mulch. So even though there was a large hole in the mesh, the mulch kept getting pushed towards the back.

Cardboard seems like a better solution for vertical traps. My backstop has a lot of depth where the mulch continuously gets pushed into place. I love your mulch box. It is mobile, where mine obviously is not.

I think 80 cu ft of mulch would fill about 40-50 backstops.

It's crazy how that stuff adds up when you start a project. Around here, Groundsmart is about all we can find and that's the stuff I mentioned from Discount Tire and it runs about $5.50 for a .8 cuft bag. Michael's backstop says it's 4x4 with a 45 degree slope. I don't know how deep it is at the top, but just for math purposes if it was zero depth at the top, that would require 20 bags. My backstop is 4x8 with a 15 degree slope on the 4x8 sheet of steel at the back of it. Plus it's a bit elevated, so mine works out to over twice that unfortunately.

When I tried to buy that stuff to put down under the kids' play area I think it worked out to about $3,600.00, and that's trash to them. If they don't get rid of it they have to pay dump fees. I think they get so much for it because it's sold to cities and companies to limit liability in play areas.

So if I wanted to build a mulch trap that would stop 100fpe, how deep do you think the mulch would need to be?

ctshooter

100fpe at the muzzle, correct?

For someone to figure that out for you the distance to the trap would need to be known, I think.

For arguments sake let's call it 100 fpe at the target so there is a little safety factor built in.
