How does G2 differ from original? Link?

PK

Vastly improved from the original Cronus, but a year or so later afterwards, Athlon came out with the BTR version, which was improved over the orginal. Now the G2...

Here yuh go.

A titan in long range precision. Poor weather and low light conditions are no match for UHD extra-low dispersion lenses. Cut through mirage and leave the competition in the dust. From precision shooting to the most demanding hunt, the Cronus BTR GEN2 is up to the challenge. The next generation of the Cronus BTR is now equipped with our applauded internal stainless-steel component turret design producing sharp, loud, tactile clicks. Features: Extra-Low Dispersion Glass, FFP, Advanced Fully Multi-coated, True Zero Stop, Illuminated Reticle, 34mm Tube, 10MIL/25MOA Travel-Per-Rotation Turrets.

Steve I would like to know how much better the Gen2 Cronus is compared to the Gen1 in glass.

MAN if you could do a side by side comparison with a high mag Tract Toric it would be very interesting.

My 1st Gen Cronus had great glass, my Cronus BTR seemed about the same but I didn't own them at the same time. To put it in perspective I had my March FX 5-40 at the same time as both those and it was hard to see any difference, just a tiny bit in favor of the March. My S&B PM2 was superior to all of them and it was easy to see a distinction but it wasn't as much as one would think.

I found this on SH in italics by Birddog 6424, who has been behind all of them, here he was referring to Track Toric. """It really is a great eyebox in the Burris XTR3. And I also really like the Gen II Razor. Most of the LOW scopes are very similar to me. They are all pretty close to each other. With the exception of the Tract Toric, which is terrible."""

It makes me wonder about Tract Toric??!!

The Burris XTR3 is 1 of 2 other scopes in this price range I would own besides the Cronus G2 APRS6, because of the generous eyebox in these scopes, the huge FOV/XTR3, and of course the ALL .2 mil reticles. The other scope is a mostly unheard of brand called Maven Optics. A PRS friend named Jason, that is HUGELY into that game has also looked through all the scopes in the market like Birddog has. Jason has a NF 7-35, a ZCO 5-27, and a Cronus BTR, "For the price", and the reticle, he likes his Cronus BTR, the Maven RS 5-30, and the XTR3, more than any of the other scopes. I wish the XTR3 was illuminated though, which is why I didn't buy one. The Cronus has DAYLIGHT BRIGHT ILLUME which is very handy on low magnification when shooting on black targets or into poorly lit areas!

Jason was one of the guys that looked through my March HM 5-42x56 and was astounded how nice the IQ was at 15x, and was the one that liked it on 42x a lot - young-ish eyes. This March beat out a Kahles 5-25 to the three of us present that day as well.

See how giving I am, lol, you got all the extra info for free.

My Cronus G2 came in yesterday. I was going to put some pics up here today but I didn't get to it. I'll get em up this weekend. I'll do a review on it in the next few months after I've used it for that time period but my first impression is I simply have to give it an A+! It's without a doubt the best scope I've come across in its price range! Everything is perfect which is about impossible coming from someone that is super hard to impress like I am, and I really mean that!!!!!!! I couldn't say this about the two previous generations of Cronus which had things about them that I felt fell short.

Suffice it to say you'll likely be very bored with the comments I'll make in the near future about this scope and sorry but I'm going to sound like a total fanboy. So far I have absolutely zero negative to say about it. BTW I've had plenty of negative things to say about scopes costing twice as much as this Cronus BTR G2!

Have one of these on the way today in 3.3x18x50 for my MK3. Will Also be ordering the Cronus here next week to compare the 2. Then off to Vortex AMG land for the next stage.

Dang Steve. Those are some strong words for it. I will definitely be curious to see your future reports.

I have thought that the Cronus was a great value for years, especially at their used prices, and then the close out prices on the last gen. It has consistently been one of my favorite scopes. I liked the original reticles best I the original, so I look forward to seeing the new one in person. Consistently my best bang for the buck purchase, which is why I have kept buying them.

This is one of very few scopes that I am very tempted to purchase soon.

That sounds like a fun scope journey! Hey let me know what you think of them all.

You would love it. EVERYTHING about this scope is EVERYTHING. The turrets are almost unbelievable they are so distinct and NADA, NONE, ZERO lash.

So is the reticle. This of course I'm super biased about because I helped design it but it turned out awesome, I'm so happy!

I don't remember the glass being this good, maybe I got a really good one??? It really suits my eyes???!!!

That is something I can say about the previous versions, they suited my eye. Some nice scopes have not suited my eye for whatever reason, even really nice ones.

It is hard for me to buy any scope around $1000, when I can get a Cronus used between $900-$1100. And it is hard to spend twice that on a scope, when the improvement to to me hasn’t often been twice. (Few exceptions)

The friend I mentioned that owns that Kahles 5-25 I don't see very often, pretty much only at NRL22 matches which I haven't been to in a couple months. So honestly I couldn't say about this G2 Cronus as compared in a side by side. I definitely like the Kahles more than the Cronus BTR that Jason has. Most everything is a tad nicer in the K 5-25, it's just a more refined unit, as it should be considering the price difference.

I will say that because of the APRS6 reticle and how much improved the G2 is, I wouldn't spend the extra money on the Kahles personally, which equates to two G2's to scope my rifles with.

For the foreseeable future I'm going to keep my S&B PM2 5-25, and my March scopes, then I'm going to sell most of the rest of my older less expensive scopes to buy more G2 Cronus/APRS6's. It's good enough for the rifles I need them for.

Thanks. I also plan to upgrade my scopes and I'll most likely pick up one of these. Now if I could just decide on which reticle. They both look good.
