The Difficuties of Pigeon Hunting in Heavy/Changing Wind

Here is some unsuccessful footage of me hunting pigeon in wind. I thought us air-gunners can understand/respect these type of difficuties when this crap happens.

One thing that was messing me up was reviewing the mirror image from my scope came. A few instances I was saying "I did not dial enough" when actually I dialed too much. I just could not sort it all out in the field. Now, I got it after stitching this video together.

Hope it helps some of you.

When you have that much wind it becomes nearly impossible. The problem of course is wind is not consistent in either speed or direction. Thanks for posting . If you hit every one what would be the challenge. One comment which is just my way of doing it. I will dial in the elevation but not the wind. I'll hold for the wind. Why because it changes . When I try to do both I get confused. I'll sometimes shoot when the pigeons are gone to get my elevation right on. Then I'll try to dope the wind.

David,

Is this your first farm?

Couple of things for now.......I use a length of 3/8" fuel line, split lengthwise to slip over the open window. This will protect your gun's stock as well as keep it from slipping on the glass.

Shooting from the car can be pretty stable if done right. One thing I noticed you doing, which I also did all last winter, was not have a rest for your right elbow. This winter, since doing so much more longer distance shooting, I have learned to brace my right elbow on my right leg, whether it be the knee or thigh, the trick is getting your knee/thigh high enough. This may be difficult depending upon the design of your car's interior. As an option, the steering wheel can be used.

This will help you to steady your shot.

Bob,

Thanks!. Yea, I should work on my car shooting. I don't do it much from the vehicle. That is some great info. I really should practice more often and see what kind of group I can get form the vehicle. I got almost a dozen farms, that I got permission for. Most of them are getting scarce on pigeon from the Lelya. I've been trying to expand and seek new territory to feed the Lelya's appetite.

My trick is bring a kid along, then ask the farmer "Would it be okay to let my son and I shoot some of your pigeon with our pellet guns?" I've trained my son (10yoa) to look straight at the farmer with a sad/intense look on his face, as if he was going to cry if the farmers says "No." Then he says, sure "I guess". Then I burst out the Lelya and smoke all the pigeon myself. It works every time!
