DAYSTATE REPORT

You need to replace the stock/Buna oring with a Viton 75d. Issue solved.

I ordered viton orings when I ordered the buna, so I have both and will try Viton next..

Thanks.

You're welcome. I replaced mine a couple weeks ago. After removing the seal, I gave the barrel a good cleaning and seated the new one with a dab of high temp vacuum seal grease. Should be good to go for lots of shots.

Replaced the buna with Viton last night. Headed to the range this A.M. and fired almost one tin of JSB Monster Jumbo (redesigned) pellets with no disheartening issues noted.

Of interest is that groups tightened up at 25 yards. Groups with the original buna orings were 1"CTC or more (at an average 903 FPS). Today sample groups (same distance and average FPS but with worse winds) included .394", .330", .338", .439", and .530" CTC. Note that even tighter groups may have been possible by those with steadier hands than mine.

Pictures of the groups are available if anyone really, really needs to see them.

I then put a 1/10th size steel Silhouette chicken (roughly 2.5" X 2.5") at 77 meters and took aim. In gusting winds I was able to make clean hits 5 out of 10 times with out too much trouble. A better result would have been possible by anyone who would have taken the time and effort needed to better read the varying wind gusts.

Next, I need to get paper targets out at 77 meters and 100 meters and see what happens. I also need to reprogram the RW HP to increase pellet speed another 30 to 50 FPS.

Fortunately, I was able to pick up a programming device this morning when I stopped in at AoA. Unfortunately, I need to read the directions and watch the Youtube videos so I can figure out how to operate the device.

Fortunately, I used to run a software development and sales company that put out a product I designed. Unfortunately, I no longer have software engineers much, much smarter and much more skilled than me available to operate the programmer.

Fortunately, device operation looks straight forward. Unfortunately, my level of patience is indirectly proportional to my age.....and its getting worse.

Enough said on programming.

Finally, I believe that today's shooting results were as good, if not better, than those I would have gotten with the $2000 dollar .25 caliber bench rest rifle I sold recently.

Best wishes to all.

The other Mark B.

Good deal. Glad to hear of those results Mark.

I suspect if a probe o-ring dislodges from it’s seat (extrudes) it’s done and needs to be replaced. Glad to hear you have the Viton 75s.

That's what I concluded after re-installing one that became dislodged, but looked pretty good. It blew out a second time not much later.

So, even if they look pretty good, once they blow out - replace 'em.

Attached please find a full-bottle regulated shot string for my Pulsar HP .25 (Hi Pwr) shooting JSB King 25.39 gr. I hope they group better than they Chrony. I know a good BC can compensate for a bad SD. I sure hope so here. Anybody else have shot strings for the Pulsar HP .25 set on high power shooting the JSB King 25.39 gr?

Also attached is a shot string for the same gun using H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 28.24 gr. They Chrony much better, but I'm getting 4" groups at 100 yds using a DeadShot.

Both strings were taken with a Chrony Beta Master.

So a question about the .22 HP. Is anyone else finding that their RW prefers for the barrel to be a little bit dirty? I cleaned my barrel with wet patches and got things nice and clean to start. But it threw fliers for about 500 shots or so and then settled down to a nice consistent one hole. When it starts to get a little ragged I pull a few patches through but no wet ones to get it really clean. Then maybe 25-50 shots and back to one hole again.

Anyone else getting anything like this? Shooting the 25 gr redesigns.

Same results for me. I only clean when I see wobbles or fliers. Then it's two patches and all good again. Usually one mag and it's back to hitting flies at 80, I don't know if that's one hole accuracy but has to be close to it. Damn RW HP still amazes me on how it performs. After the leaves are gone I will be able to see all those birds at 150-200 yards and can't wait to test out those 25gr Redesigned JSBs at those ranges.

I suspect that the polygonal rifled barrels like to be well “seasoned”. I see this in my .25 RAW and .22 Red Wolf poly barrels. When I do clean, I don’t worry about getting it super clean as to have no trace of lead on the patches. A few patches and it’s good, even still having some grey lead streaks. After 20-30 pellets of seasoning after this type cleaning, it’s on again.

That's an interesting notion. I clean my barrels as soon as I receive the gun to remove any manufacturing gunk. (I buy only new guns.) Then I run a full-bottle regulated shot string to get a valid average fps for Chairgun. I generally don't run another shot string or clean the bore unless I'm experiencing POI issues. Since I shoot exclusively electronic guns, hammer spring creep and mechanical regulator failure are not issues.

Keep in mind that the "grey lead streaks" you see on your cleaning patches are not actually lead. It is a non-lead coating (graphite) that is applied to the pellets during manufacture to protect the lead from oxidation and to serve as a lubricant.

Good discussion.

I did a deep barrel cleaning and breech seal change a couple weeks ago... and shot the RW for the 1st time since the cleaning yesterday. As usual, started off at 50yrds with decent results. After shooting 3/4's of a tin of 25g redesigns, we moved out to 100yds. Well, my results were not so great... more fliers than expected. I shot nine 3" targets. Couple 5 shot groups ~1" others.... 1.5 to 2". When I got home, I did a quick barrel clean same as Crusher mentions above. Hopefully, my groups tighten right back up as expected... and if so, I'll pull a few patches through when I'm halfway through a tin. Especially when shooting at 100 yards.
