Daystate THE DAYSTATE PROGRAMMER-LET'S TALK ABOUT (PROPERLY) PROGRAMMING THE REDWOLF

HELP!

Hey Red Wolfers, I've had my Red Wolf HP .22 for a couple years and would like to get it shooting the MRD's at about 970. Right now, on HP it goes about 900. What's the best/easiest way for me to do this? I don't need 12 power settings like a heliboard has. I am wondering if I can just change out my GCU1 board for the new GCU2 board and be in the ballpark?

I use the gun for speed silly, shooting 18's on med power, and now, 100 yard EBR, shooting MRD's on high.

I am primarily a FT shooter so I am used to getting my gun set up and keeping it there, all this tuning stuff is quite beyond me. Should I just sell it and get a RW Safari .22? Or a Safari .25 for the EBR? I'd prefer to stay with the .22. From everything I've read, a well tuned .22 shooting MDR's is about as good as it gets for an airgun at 100 yards.

Thanks

Greg

Hi Greg, we have done a few older 50 footers, you will indeed need to change the board out as the capacitors are the key to higher power than 50.

However unless you have a programmer the board will need to come programmed from AOA or the gun will have to go to them, or you will need to get a programmer or find someone who has one.

Usually the porting on the old 50's is okay to get the power, but ocassionally the gun will need some mechanical adjustment, you will almost certainly need a hardened hammer fitted and probably the wave spring replaced, maybe even the valve pin and peek seal as they tend to wear after a couple of years, in fact you may as well have a complete service TBH.

HI Greg, hope all is well long time no see.

If you are wanting to get up to 970 and you don't have a programmer, it might be best to send it off to AOA for the upgrade. If you are planning on shooting it at EBR, the sooner you get it to them the better, not much time left. I did the work on mine myself as I have the equipment to tune it. For sure the GCU2 board and maybe a .30 valve should get you to 970 with the 25.39 RDs. Along with the other parts Mark mentioned...

Good luck,

Dave Corder

No problem Wayne, but actually the "standard" .22 is the 35FPE gun with the 17.5" barrel, the HP is the 50FPE with the 23.5" poly barrel and the SAFARI is the 65FPE gun.

The only difference now anyways between the 50FPE .22 & the 65FPE guns is the programming, mechanically they are basically the same, but initally when the 65FPE gun was introduced you had to buy it to get the GCU2 board, wheras now the GCU2 board is fitted to every Redwolf, even the sub 12 guns.

But to get to the point I was simply trying to distinguish which programming and board your gun had.

My Red Wolf is pushing 34gr JSB pellets 930fps on high power and 25.39gr JSB 1033fps on high power. In the mid range the 25.39s are going 975fps. What kind of speeds do you get from the SAFARI?

I am not trying to argue with you but the ad at AOA advertised the .22 HP as a 65 foot pound gun.

Please correct me if I am wrong, it certainly would not be the first time I was wrong!

Thank you.

Hi Wayne, I think the confusion comes from the stock, in that the SAFARI is a stock colour specifically, but many still have the 50FPE version RW which was always listed as the HP version, so to distinguish we use SAFARI to describe the 65FPE gun regardless of stock colour option.

The 65FPE gun was only availible with the SAFARI style stock initially, maybe AOA describe the guns differently now, although I suspect most RW buyers now simply go for the 65FPE gun and don't bother with the 50FPE programmed version, BUT a lot of 50FPE RW owners do want to upgrade to 65FPE guns and because the boards can be the old type I always make sure to ask.

I have told DAYSTATE numerous times that IMO the programming of the power should be different, the low power one should be programmed to give circa 900FPS with the 18g pellet, the trouble is that the porting to get the really high power can lead to a less consistent shot string if you drop the power too low on a RW if that makes sense.

The curve I listed earlier to 230 bar is actually what comes on a "standard" RW 35FPE gun which is specifically programmed to shoot the 18g pellet on the high power curve.

Plus in the USA power sells airguns, so as far as I am concerned your fun is the SAFARI version if that all makes sense.

It makes perfect sense to me, thank you for taking the time to explain it to me.

Walnut harvest started today on my brothers ranch so it be a while before I can play with my rifle and programmer but when I do I am sure I will have more questions.

Thank you.

Wayne

Walnut harvest starting already? I'm still waiting to shake my almonds. You must be in the central valley Wayne? Manteca area for me...
