The Coyotes are infiltrating and I need to take action

Just Scent Lock up, head shoot the first one and prop it's legs apart. Once it "rigs up", stand it up for a decoy in a high vis spot and the rest will be back the next night (especially if you anchor the alfa bitch). A little patience and/or a call will do the trick. When it does you'll have decoy #2...and so on and so on and so on. Curiosity didn't just kill the cat. Vermigeddon!

I did call DEP because you have to report any coyote kills or if they attack . and I picked their brain they said this to me No baiting for them 1 and you can shoot them basically all year long as many as you want , and I got out of it that their is hunting for them and their is getting rid of pests which are causing damage I personally wouldn't of bothered them if they did not attack my dog., so this is purely for safety

I can say there was probably 15 or so every nite , I have seen them from 6pm to 4am and they attacked Titus at 630 pm , They have not returned since Titus has taken one out , I believe they were watching him while last nite he ate his dinner on the deck , a coyote steak , They have retreated for now ,

I just signed up for the Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator course , Here you have to take a course and take an exam to get this license to get rid of nuisance animals , they have 2 classes a residential an commercial and then take an exam and then send a check to state and then you can take out animals which are a threat or doing property or damage to crops or livestock , SO with a licensee you can go beyond a hunting law to get rid of Them , LOU

Hmm I didnt think of arrowsto get them , here in my State pcp arrow guns not legal but a cross bow are legal , them things just like guns with a scope , just dont have the range of a pcp gun , but the problem with arrows is that they would run after shooting until they bleed out like a deer rite? I cant shoot one and have it end up on someones lawn , I personally hope my state does update their laws on PCP guns , Many states have adopted deer hunting with pcp guns .Mine did not yet

Good idea on setting traps!

Michigan has allowed air rifles for hunting, but without much thought they have the same caliber restrictions as powder burners.

That's not exactly great because the largest caliber air rifle you can use on coyotes at night is 25 caliber. So much for all the 30 caliber air rifles out there that would otherwise be great for this.

I seriously considered a Condor in 25 just to shoot coyotes at night.

OK BOB here e private land is 22 caliber pcp or 22 lr only.and here it says hunting hours are from 1/2 hr before sunrise to 1/2 hr after sunset . but with Pesting or like a crop damage things different and if you have 10 acres or more you can use a center power rifle say for deer , but not a PCP or air bow , I think the laws here were written long ago and it is not a gun friendly state ,meaning say you want to buy a box of 22 ammo or a shot gun shells u need a ammo license and if you want to buy a gun then a long arm licensee , but If you get a pistol permit it supersedes them all , I got this just to upgrade some powder burners , I do not like pistols but the permit save alot of issues in my State .LOU

Don't know if you read one of my replies, but the way it seems to work at my place is when I shoot one it usually takes a few days to more than a week for another to come in. I just got one a couple nights ago so I don't expect anymore for about a week. That isn't to say that I'm not locked and loaded and ready to go should my sensors go off, but I think it comes down to a couple of things- the smart ones don't want to go around that area if they have been shot at/had others with them shot at, and two- it takes time for new ones to discover my bait pile. This is not to mention that in Northern IL right now the temperature is sitting around -20 as I write this, but by Sunday the temps are supposed to be up around 40, and they will be moving quite a bit more. Bottom line, the coyotes will be back (ones that have either been there before or new ones) to your place if there is a food source around there.

I’m going to try and post my first pic and don’t know squat about sizing it so here it goes. This was a pistol kill while out calling and killed at 4-5 yards. When this coyote seen that mouse was packing a HK usp he remembered the roadrunner except bang bang. It’s my favorite mount even in better than my booner in my eyes. I say mount it cause you’ll never forget an air rifle kill and it will give your dog something to bark at.

Just getting caught up on this thread, so first, well done! Second, as other's have stated, hugely interesting thread. Thirdly, thanks for your research, regarding some interesting regulations...I probably missed this but what state are you in? Out here west, I would almost look at your problem as an special opportunity. Just aren't seeing coyotes in those number's anymore. Thanks for sharing.
