The best airgun ever made.

Well,, (thumbs up to JoeCool) here's my 2 cents. I have so little practical experience with such a large variety of air rifles, lol BUT, I was at the midwest air gun show today. I went so I could physically pick these rifles up,shoulder them, make note of the stock dimensions and weight. I held the pro-sport,the LGV and UGVs. Daystate,BSA, S510s and few others. The 1 I'd most likely wanted to walk away with would have been RWS 34. It's slim, not heavy, shoulders easily, the wrist is open,my hand is'nt crowded up against the trigger guard. It seemed like such a comfortable, natural handleing rifle. It has the reputation as a shooter to back it up. And it's affordable to most people. FXs may be super this and super that but the 34 is a Natural that does'nt need any high dollar peripherals or costly maintenance. Has held up to the test of time and all you need is a tin of pellets to enjoy it.The HW50 caught my eye as well.Comes with good pedigree and checkering , So I'll be saving my penny,s where and when I can to have one or the other.

My vote goes to Red Ryder. Once you shoot it, you realize:

1) It can and should be more accurate

2) It can and should be more powerful

3) What else can i shoot this with and what else is out there that is even better?

That's where it got you hooked into the "darkside".... a $30 Red Ryder Walmart special starts you along the path of no return. Name me another rifle that has had that much influence on most of us.

I'm torn. I have a Marauder and an Impact. Which is best might not be so obvious. Let me explain -

I just got back from the range. After doing a touch of work on the Marauder (polished air tube, installed regulator, Hill 20 gram hammer, Hill 262 hammer spring and the lighter valve spring). Considering I'm not all that good of a shot, I still managed to post these groups this morning at 75 yards (3 inch targets). Also, I've put at least 4,000 rounds through it so the barrel is really broken in:

Those might not look that impressive, but I only designed the parts kit for 50 yards, and at 75 it's still very accurate. Groups 2 and 3 were proof that the gun could do some serious accurate shooting at range. Group #5 of one shot was just as the Range Masters called a cease fire. But considering it was a bull, I'm not complaining.

Now the Gen 1 Impact will shoot better, but at nearly 4 times the cost (Marauder plus parts around $550 compared to Impact at $2000). I learned so much on the Marauder I'd be afraid to do on the Impact, sometimes I wonder.

Don't get me wrong, the Impact is fantastic, better trigger, more accurate out of the box, factory regulated, and all that other good stuff, but bang for buck, maybe the Marauder is the best "Bang for the buck" gun ever made?????

That's a hard question after seeing the results.

Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge. People have been arguing over this question for a hundred years. Each choice has valid reason for each person to say they have the best vehicle. People are loyal to what ever they reason in their mind as right and anything other is wrong.

To take this one step further; Religion. My God is better than your god. Wars have and will still be fought over this argument. Telling someone why you think you are right is a very touchy subject and depending what you tell them could get you killed.

Now, I would never tell anyone why my gun is better than your gun even though in my mind the reason why I choose my gun seem right.

Man this has turned serious . I’d certainly hope no one is injured .

I think it’s a great thread and of course just by the nature of subject there has to be disagreement but there have been some good points made about the impact and others.

I can’t say necessarily that I want at impact rifle but I certainly appreciate the fact that it is leading the way . Last year about this time if my memory serves me it was all about the Daystate Red Wolf HP this year the FX Impact what they have in common is advancement in technology.

Next year this time what will be the hot ticket? Don’t know but I can hardly wait to see. Good time to be an air gunner

Well stated! This is definitely a controversial topic with many varying opinions. No one is wrong, and no one is right. ;)

Actually, I think everyone is right. It's my opinion, maybe not fact in someone else's opinion, but sure is right in mine!

Keep it light hearted everyone! Do like the option of a Red Ryder (or in my case the 1896 replica bb gun) being best because it got me started.

Have fun Ya'll

Sam -

Ahhh. A Christmas Story and Red Ryder - Classic!

Until any other airgun has a hollywood classic movie made around it like the Red Ryder, that is replayed around the clock every Christmas continuously, and has such a cult following, nothing else will EVER come close!

Red Ryder wins. Game set and done. Enuff Said! 😁

Sorry but I have to say that gun is another design misfit IMO, but as long as you like it that is the only thing that is important!

Would you care to elaborate? I own this gun, and happen to think it’s the cat’s meow, and that’s the only thing that’s important to me. But, if you are gonna say it’s a “design misfit” at least list a couple reasons. Maybe, just maybe, someone will learn something and avoid making an expensive mistake.
