Texas Hunting Rules for Airguns ... New rule due for filing deadline 09 July

I received a heads up this Morning to watch the Texas Register for a posting of the new Rule. As of 15:30 CDT 12 - July - 2018 nothing yet. I'll post a link to the new public comments just as soon as it is known which I suspect will be tomorrow as that is the usual day issues of the Register are published.

Edit: Update: 22:52 CDT 12 July 2018 Tomorrows register has been published WITHOUT any TPWD proposed regulations at all.

The new proposed rule is in it but breaks down to this:

PCP ONLY

.30 Minimum

150 grain at 800 fps

OR any combination of bullet and velocity to produce 215 ft/lb.

Any chance of us being able to use them for the ‘18-‘19 season? Or it will not take effect til the ‘19-‘20 hunting season.

A lot of good and completely adequate guns are going to be eliminated by those requirements. 215fpe (or the 213fpe 150gn@800fps works out to) seems arbitrary.

Over the next week I’m going to start filming some depredation hunts in Florida under our new regulations. I’ll show what pellets and sub 100 grain bullets at 70-120fpe can do.

In fact, I’m not sure if the .308 Texan Allen Cain of TPWD used to cleanly kill two spikes at 120 yards each on camera as a part of TPWD’s research into airguns would qualify. Most .308 loads for airguns are sub 150 grains and clock out to 200fpe or less.
