Texan 257

Just have to love this platform by far one of the most interesting long range subsonic platforms out there. Im using Arsenal 257388 bullets sized to 257 weight being 85gr still middle of testing but seems to be the go to bullet for 1:14tr barrel for stretching out.

Could not afford to buy Maddog stock its so damn expensive to ship in Eu and pay taxes etc.

Although I love cast bullets and have two Arsonal and three NOE .257 molds which I shoot 90% of the time.... the NSA 85gr BTHP is the one that gives me the highest accuracy at really long range like 300 yards.

But only after I started lubing them properly, they didn't do that well plain. I've been using a thin coat of FinishLine Chain Wax liquid that dries to a thin dry wax then dusting them with a bit of Hexagonal Boron Nitride which sticks to the wax.

I followed Doug Noble's advice and pulled the spring in the valve and the flow restricting spring retainer to get another 50 FPS. I also bought one of his stronger .257 hammer springs and changed the aluminum bottle to a carbon fiber bottle and fill to 3500.

Mounted in a Maddog Recon stock with a Maddog 20 MOA rail on top it's a bit heavy but is amazingly accurate.

Why would you need more out from 257 texan? As stock it will sling anything it can stabilize with 1:14 over 1000fps. I get that if you want to shorten the barrel or swap it to 1:10 for 100+grainers or bigger bt bullets.

I totally agree with you with NSA 85grs those are just crazy expensive to ship to EU so prices are double or more like triple what you guys have there. Oh you guys have so many things so much easier in there. I envy you lol.

Yes you are right about barrel texans have fairly thin barrels thats why there is those rubber weights to change barrel harmonics and other way is to sleeve it or put a real bullbarrel. Alltho I have not seen any problems with harmonics so far and Im shooting right at 1000fps so I dont really know how much of an problem that really is with 257. The reason you really dont want to shoot faster is transonic range that can start from as low as 879fps depending from shape of the projectile and even with shapes we are using 1000fps might be even too "hot" on some of the cases and your accuracy might get worse.

Fun fact is that bullet on the picture next to 85grainer is 51gr .223 that Im still testing from my 222rem Spa M10 and best speed area for that bullet seems to be under 885fps.

In you tube there is a channel.. verybigrifle you se his condor and Texans have 1"..bull barrels and he could shoot 600y ..even ant 1000y accurately because tha thick barrel almost cancel all harmonics..In the powder burn world there's a company that buid charly tac..that is applying the thick barrel technology building 2" thick barrel with holes that run the length of the barrel that not only cool the barrel it cancel the harmonics allowing the shooter to use different bullet and charge with almost no poi change...really good times for the gun industry ....I'm to building a .223 condor have everything I need except the barrel have not been available to find a affordable option with a 1-12 twist 29"long ..most of my bullet molds are between 50g--to--59g..what twist rate are you using? ..I really like the spa M10 they are affordable and high power great for custom built but I dont have a machinists to do that kind of work...would like to se pics of your modified m10..post them when you can..thanks
