Testing heavy pellets and slugs in my .22 Uragan

Wanted to share a bit of my journey so far…

When I purchased my Uragan one of the things I wanted was the ability to shoot pellets at the heavy end of the spectrum. I found that the Beasts are just a hair too long for the magazines but single loading to shoot at least showed promise when I first tried them.

I ordered a CARM magazine to attempt modifying the cover plate to gain that little bit of room to get the Beasts to fit inside.

Testing at 30 yards showed great results with 18.13 Jumbos (@1044 FPS) and enough to keep testing Monsters (@933 FPS) as well as Beasts (@818 FPS)

moving back to 50 yards things open a little as expected and I’m still trying to figure out what hold and rest combination provides the best results (so far a light hold off of sand bags gets a tiny edge). I was only able to compare Beasts to Knock Outs (.216 and .217) last night at 50 yards. While not “one hole” groups, the Beasts again show promise by shooting sub MOA groups (under 1/2” at 50 yards).

The .216 Knock Outs show some promise as well with slightly larger groups (see above) as well as one truly astonishing group that I was completely unable to figure out how I did and could not replicate.

18.13 @ 1044, smoking!

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Harry, I agree! Too fast, and MORE wind drift than at the communally preferred 880-ish FPS!

I’ve gotten some .22 Monster Redesigned in and had a chance to test them at 50 yards and I think at this tune they have a slight edge over the Beasts. It still looks like I can get MOA-ish to slightly better performance from them with some occasionally stellar groups.

I may play around with trying some small groups after it comes off reg to see if detuning to a lower pressure is warranted and if I get really adventurous (or bored over the winter) I think I still have a tiny bit of room on both the reg and hammer spring adjuster to bump up a little more.

pics from yesterday’s play time (5 shot groups going down right column were playing with different holds)

Hey Blue, in all this testing, what are you finding your effective reg range to be?

I had Tony at Talon Tunes swap out the factory reg for the Huma and I asked him to set it up for me to specifically shoot pellets on the heavy end of the spectrum.

I didn’t ask what he had it set for but he said there’s a little more that could be wrung out if I want it in the future. When I was doing my initial chrony work it looked like it was coming off reg at about 150 bar and I believe (but am not sure) the Huma can be set up to 155 bar.

Try Seneca dome these might get results ur looking for in slugs they are max weight I don't think u can find a heavier then Seneca pointed but they are useless in a magazine so the domes are way to go unless u load straight into barrel domes are 28+ grain pointed is 32+ grain both dump energy in initial contact but the power behind the weight of the pellet keep it going both shoot pretty flat an can take windage for long shots 75yds+ lastly only con with is the drop mine drops about 3 in at 100
