Test firing Crosman's new GuideHawk .177 ultra magnum

After having to blow my half of the federal refund on bills, SS finally puts my 1st payment in the bank! Then other half of state check comes in. I then thought oh ho ho...daddy goin' shoppin'! Went to PA and got some Hawke mid rise mounts to replace the high Gamo mounts on the 66AB Powermaster. No guns of note on sale though. So over to Midway USA for some rifle window shoppin'. Looked through new arrivals, refurbs, etc. Then decided to look at the clearance sale page. Well, the brand new Crosman GuideHawk .177 UM that's 250 bucks at Crosman's site, and that's 200 bucks regular price on Midway, was on their clearance page for $70! Having passed up 3-4 deals in the last 5 months, if I'd have passed on this one, I'd have hated myself cometh the dawn. $83.xx and it got here last Tuesday, 7/3. Here's the video I made of the unboxing and test firing...

And today, after cleaning the bore and a second rubbing with Rem-Oil, the grain figuring is starting to show up more;

Yeah, I instantly fell in love with that stock. Looks like the older Remington's to me. Cheek comb actually suits me too! The first air rifle I've bought that does. And that elbow sling swivel is also used on the Winchesters, like my 1400cs. Good to see that becoming more commonplace. The Striker needs one. I'm going to do one on it from the 1400cs. I like the peachy grain streaks too. Gives it a different sort of character. It'll get a few more Rem-Oil rub downs until I think it looks just right. I also found out during registering it on Crosman's site while searching for mine in the SKU list, that they have it in .22 as well! I want that one too. My Crosman' collection is now 7 rifles strong!

The 4th coat of Rem-Oil looks a little shinier. Over all, a little cleaner, so that'll be it for now. I still need to find a non-Caldwell chronograph that'll consistently record .177 caliber numbers. .177cal is too small to work very well at all with the Caldwell. Any suggestions for one that will? I need one asap for that caliber.

I wonder why? Battenfeld Technologies that owns Caldwell shooting supplies, replaced free of charge my IR lights for white LED kit, the unit itself, the 3.5mm cable to connect the phone to it, and a fire wire to USB cable they use that won't work. It reads very sporadically with any .177's? Mostly errors or doesn't read at all.

**PS- I just checked Walmart for this G2, and found out it's made to read air guns and paintball guns as well. Looks like I bought the wrong one. $175 at the cheapest. Gotta try that one it seems?

I own a G1 Caldwell with IR lighting and have used it indoors since I bought it. I ended up buying a USB cable to connect to my Android phone because the one that came with the unit didn't work. I have noted it gets errors at times and found that if I close the drapes and don't use florescent lights the errors are rare. I also try very hard to keep the pellets passing over the sensors at about the same distance both horizontally and vertically. If I vary too much in position I do get errors.

I was looking for a list of Caldwell error codes and found the following link that may help. The 7th post from the last reply caught my attention and my unit 'might' be one of those affected so I will be looking into that but the comments on too much or too little light could be worth looking into. In that post one guy drapped a towel over the units and got his to work.

Well, having won Joe Rhea's Youtube contest for one of three Sonicking 3-9x40AO scopes, I swapped it onto the mounts the rifle came with. Fit perfectly! I took the Centerpoint 3-9x32 mildot scope this rifle came with and installed it on the Crosman model 70 with a new pair of Hawke mid-rise dovetail mounts from Optics Planet. The Sonicking scope looks like it was made for this rifle. Quick to acquire eye relief too. So here's a couple pics of the scope for y'all to enjoy, and thanks again to Joe Rhea for the awesome scope!
