Teen arrested for shooting cars with high-powered pellet rifle on NC highway

Glad they apprehend the suspect and doubly glad as Keone said nobody was hurt. It's people like these that give ethical owners a bad name because the general public lumps us in with these few idiots. Don't know about his parents but if they are like mine were then then he is facing a very warm behind when he gets home and won't be sitting comfortably for a month.

"Jill Walston told WNCN-TV she was a passenger in a car hit by an unknown shooter’s bullet just after 2 p.m. on Monday."

The gun hating media will certainly exaggerate the findings.... "detectives determined where the shots were coming from and recovered a spent round, which turned out to be a pellet from a high-powered pellet rifle."  How do they know it was a high powered pellet rifle?

"He said the gunshot “radiated throughout the vehicle,” and he knew he hadn’t just hit road debris."

"After the two returned home they noticed the hole in the car’s passenger side, near where Jill Walston had been sitting. A sheriff’s deputy confirmed it was from a bullet, she said."

"More pellet ammunition and several rounds of BBs were found there." Pellets and BBs tells us it was most likely a pump up rifle or CO2 rifle.

What this kid did was stupid and dangerous. No one in their right mind would condone or try to defend his/her actions, but the police and news can't get their stories straight. Was it a bullet or was it a pellet? What kind of cop can't distinguish the difference in a pellet or bullet? What size is the hole? Was the hole in the glass or a steel body panel?

I'm sorry but I spent 25 years in law enforcement, (now retired) and no police press release of ours would have stated a bullet without conclusive evidence such as a shell casing at the scene, or a recovered slug.

If it was pellet than say so. But then a pellet shooting kid isn't sensational enough to boost ratings, so let's say "bullet" and maybe we should describe this kid as a terrorist too.

Heck drive through the rough parts of St. Louis, kids and young adults throw rocks at cars passing by just for fun. It’s pretty tight traffic so you cannot stop, a few weeks ago we hard a big one thrown at our car. We are lucky it didn’t shatter the windshield. so basically idiots and degenerates are everywhere.

Maybe he was shooting slugs, the story doesn’t say. I would say he’d have to be pretty high powered to put a hole in a car moving at highway speed.

Welp, this is not good. This kind of incident simply provides the knee jerk bleeding hearts ammunition with which to attack our community. One can only hope that these sorts of incidents do not become more common as we increase the range and lethality of our air rifles with bullets and heavier calibers. Once the folks in Virginia get things sorted out with gun registration and/or confiscation, they will start on a movement to ensure that guns which are over 12 FPE muzzle energy are licensed and registered. I will give five to one odds on that assertion.

First they came for:

First they came for the assault rifles
And I did not speak out
Because I did not own an assault rifle

Then they came for the semi-automatic rifles
And I did not speak out
Because I did not own a semi-automatic rifle

Then they came for the pistols
And I did not speak out
Because I did not own a pistol

Then they came for the shotguns
And I did not speak out
Because I did not own a shotgun

Then they came for my air rifle
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Just my opinion. Not intended to offend in any way. Each of us has to make his own choices.

lets see...about a month ago some young people dropped a big rock from a overpass,it hit a car and killed the driver...they were all caught and face manslaughter charges..was in the paper more than a couple of times....can't get much worse than that...

Yeah, but they haven't figured out a way to make people register rocks yet. =) Years ago a kid dropped a big watermelon off an overpass down Rt17 in eastern Va. hit a trucker in the chest and killed him. ...

Common sense has nothing to do with their desire to control the rest of us. Kinda sad, really.

"First "THEY" came". this is manna for "THEY"

soon "THEY" will put a LCS in the hands of a useful idiot, and the rest is written.

I don't live in the US , and admire your 2nd from afar, however I will say,

If tech leads to fully auto 1000fps 25g "slugs" being spread around by some loon who just walked into a airgun store and lifted one off the self,

be prepared to require a license, or at least fill in a form.

Good luck to the folk going to Virginia.

Reminds me of the pellet gun sniper in upstate SC back in the 90’s. Kids were riding up and down I-85 with a pellet gun shooting oncoming cars. It made national news. They had helicopters out and police in the woods and under over passes trying to catch the shooter. Turns out they were mobil.

This kid in NC did something really stupid and of course the media will blow it out proportion. And give fuel to the anti’s.
