Taming the Hammer

I just ordered the DonnyFL Great Kami and adapter for my Hammer. Although not bad to shoot without ear protection, I’d like it to be a bit quieter. Anyone else out there have experience with DonnyFL products on their Hammer. I hate to add 14” to the end of an already long gun, but hey, go big or go home! Fingers crossed! There was only a 4dB change in the video I saw of the Great Kami on a 50cal Texan. Went from 104dB to 100dB. That doesn’t sound like much on paper but the employee from DonnyFL said it was very noticeable. I’ll do some non employee testing and share my dB results with you all when it comes in. You could hear the bullet impact after the installation which you couldn’t prior to. Maybe 4dB is a lot, I’m not sure.

You are going to be a little disappointed, while it will quiet it down a handful, that rifle releases a lot of noise due the firing cycle and the magazine setup which is an action that happens before the end of the barrel.

"We've made some improvements since building the original kit, and these parts will get you sorted out. Keep in mind that the Hammer has a very loud firing cycle and a lot of that noise is from the mechanism. This kit will lower the muzzle report, but since your ear is next to the firing mechanism when you pull the trigger, you will still hear a lot of noise."

Whats in quotes is direct from DonnyFL when I inquired about it. Don't expect mouse farts.

I’m starting to wonder if my pleasant shooting experience with the hammer is a result of me shooting lefty. I notice the mag well has a cover on the right side of the gun and is open on the left. Maybe that’s why I don’t notice the giant pull of air everyone speaks of. Also, the action is not that loud. But again, I live in the country where gun fire is common and it doesn’t mean murder. Maybe loud has a different definition to us out here.

I live on a 30 acre property, in the middle of 9000 acres of state forest, deer are abundant (lots of hunting), equipment is abundant (wood chippers, earth moving machines, skid steers (which I run daily), gun fire is abundant every "neighbor" I have shoots on their own property. I am no city dweller, the shooting position MAY have something to do with noise if your left and right ear dont function equally.... thats a big MAY though. I never complained about the air coming from the mag well, not once , not ever, Umarex did good with the big orange label saying beware! dont put hand here... the action IS loud in comparison to other air rifles. It sounds like you have made up your mind on the kami before even experiencing it, or are trying to convince yourself

The suppressor will dumb the noise down but again, it won't have NEARLY the same effect as it does on even.... the zeus just because of the way the rifle operates itself.... so just be prepared for that.

Please do not take this the wrong way kevo1288. My original post was asking if anyone had experience with DonnyFL products and their Hammer. Money has already been spent. If I needed convincing, this post would have come out prior. And of course I have my mind made up on the Kami, that’s why I bought it. This was just a post to get information about what others are using. Maybe others are happy with the cheaper Ronin. Maybe the Emperor. With or without the extension. Sounds like you are in a location similar to mine. Never thought about maybe having a bit of hearing loss. Good call. Anyhow, I’ll run some numbers and give my real world experience to you all when it comes in. Anyone else have real world experience?

Right and I quoted an email direct from Donny themselves because I was skeptical after listening to all the videos and talking with my local airgun dealer who had one outfitted with an Emperor and Extension and his reply was extremely similar. When I said mind made up I meant that it seems like your preconvinced youre going to have different results than everyone else.

Good luck !

Yep. I got the same email. Hoping to hear first hand those who have experience with the product on their own gun. Expectations are just preconceived disappointment, thus I I have none. Of course I’m hoping for the best with a $385 investment, but nothing to be disappointed in if it doesn’t “mouse fart”. It’s a freaking 50 cal regulated at 3000psi. You’d be stupid to expect that. The action is loud on every airgun with a moderator. I don’t necessarily purchase the moderator strictly for my own audible perception. It is too for those around me. Plus I love hearing the impact of the lead on the intended target.

The results may not be as noticeable on camera as they are to the ear. My dB meter is not working at the moment. Maybe it needs batteries. I’ll get you some real numbers soon. I’m very happy with the results.

Lowered the muzzle report thats for sure, however, from a price stand point and practicality stand point, was it worth it? Thats still a "very loud" air rifle. Not backyard friendly in most places (we don't live in most places I understand this :) ) thats all.

I’m not sure I’m achieving anything but a more pleasant shooting experience. Is it worth the money, only if you have an extra $340. (I misspoke in my previous post about it being $385). So I’d say buy one if you are considering. It makes the gun obnoxiously long. It makes it about 1.5lbs heavier at the muzzle end. I’m not sure if that helps keep on target for a follow up. I’m not concerned about that. So, yes, a complete waste of money, but a necessary waste in my opinion.
