Tuning Taipan Veteran Leak

Okay, I've been fighting this issue for a little while now, and may need some opinions on what's going on.

I decided to mod my transfer port for more power in my .22 long veteran, in an attempt to shoot the RD monsters around 950 fps. I did the mod per Ernest Rowe's YouTube video. I also replaced the regulator with a Huma.

I reassembled the airgun, and the ES is crazy big. So multiple tear downs and assemblies. I believed that I nicked the face of the transfer port, so I polished that up to make it as smooth as possible.

Right now when I try and fill the gun up from empty, air leaks out of the barrel. My thoughts are that air is leaking past the transfer port where the delrin rod sits and seals on the face, so I need to smooth it out some more. Before I go through this all again, can those more knowledgeable then me confirm that this sounds like it's the problem? I don't want to continue down this path if there's other things I should be looking at.

Thanks!

If you are filling with the rifle cocked, and with a good initial blast of air, I have no other thoughts. I have learned over many years, that the builders usually know best about putting things together, so I seldom mod them. Generally, the Taipan regs are very good, I'm surprised you replaced it.

No quick blast of air, since I only have an air Venturi nomad compressor. I did put an ear plug at the end of the barrel, just in case it needed some back pressure to help some valves seat (I have to do this to fill up my Brocock Bantam when I don't have a bottle available to give it a quick blast of air).

As far as replacing the regulator, I did that to isolate that as a variable. I adjusted the stock regulator, and wasn't sure if I messed it up. Apparently the problem is not the stock regulator.

If you are lucky your valve seat (poppet) just needs that nudge to get it to seat.

Will this accomplish anything different then plugging the barrel with a foam ear plug?

It should stop the leak if the earplugs won't do it besides my idea has already been proven to work among lots of people.

Thanks, I will give it a shot!

Try filling and shooting the hell out if it quick as possible non stop to force it to seat and say a prayer. Having the valve pin and seat already needing replacement is rather unusual for a Taipan Veteran.

Unfortunately I can't even fill it up, it won't fill up past 10 or 20 bar. I am filling it with a Air Venturi Nomad compressor, so perhaps it needs a bottle to provide a quick burst of air.

You are actually the first and only case that I know of where the 2 pellet double load trick didn't work because it worked with everyone who used their hand pumps.

Your gun must be pretty pissed off.

Assuming your gun is no longer under warranty based on the mods you did it would be reasonable to believe Talon Tunes may have what you need.

I would inquire about warranty first just in case. Maybe you get the parts under warranty who knows?
