I use and recommend the Donny tatsu in .22 for you
I hope to hear about your cast pellets/slugs/bullets not matter what airgun. Did you get you molds back from N.O.E.?
I'm looking to purchase a N.O.E. mold in .22 for this taipan and start casting so more reviews, so few, the better no matter the airgun.
I just want to know its not me and my beginner casts that could cause bad accuracy. I plan for under 50 yard stuff but if I were to go further I would use swaged style of ammo.
Back to moderator
I read someone said a guy who made moderators thought they needed to be at least 1.5'' wide and at least 5'' long for good effect. If I ever get a standard Taipan in .22 I would think a sumo in .22 would work great.
I bought a Ronin .25 a long time ago and then added a .22 Tatsu with the sole intention of putting it on a taipan shorty .22 to keep everything...short I finally got my shorty and initially shot it stock, louder than I thought it would be but very backyard friendly. I'm used to a Prod going around 635fps with JSB 18's so this increase in power has to sound louder. The tatsu helped and the ronin again helped but both were small increments of improvement. It is hard for me to tell the improvements cause mine pings loud. It must be the hammer strike and with my head and ear right there I see why I hear that over anything else. I would need to have someone else fire it with the different moderators to give you a more accurate opinion of sound. I could feel the ronin out there more but the taipan has so much weight on the backend it's not off balanced. I would say the sumo but you mention keeping it stock and so this is why I say the tatsu as it is his shortest moderator (less likely to feel it) so that is what I recommend. Also I realized after several huge fliers that my tatsu got loose and was clipping so I reccomment to anyone to put some thick grease on the threads, I used moly, then screw moderator back on. No problems since but I do check it more often now.
I recommend getting the clip holders for your taipan. I was cheap and only bought one. My mistake as I have to pocket the used mag before I grab the one in the holder. It would seem easier to stick the used mag in an empty holder then grab the new mag from the holder next to it, plus I would get the single shot tray holder to, so everything is with the gun. The more you order the price gets better so this is where I made my mistake.
I also recommend Donny's HST adjuster. I might not need it but love the idea of tool less adjustability. I say not need it as I tend to dial everything in then not touch it, my scope included other than the zoom. But, having the adjuster is great and if I owned a tiny chrono, like barrel mounted, I bet I would change it all the time. I used the same weed whacker piece that fit in the set screw hole for the hole on the adjuster and used some RTV silicone so I have a flat side and a point to reference my 12,3,6 and 9 'o' clock positions and their power.
Hope you see this reply as I really want to hear about your casting good or bad, specifically with N.O.E. molds.
I will be purchasing the "hunter" mold not out yet in .22 for my shorty, the smaller of the two JSB pellet type molds. I would like to keep my speed up and realize for heavier pellets I should have purchased the standard Veteran. I get casting for .22 might not be worth the time or expense but I also bought a 45-70 mold about 10 years ago so I'm at the point where I have too much ''stuff'' and if I don't use it I should loose it. Funny cause using the old mold requires me to purchase/acquire more "stuff".
