TAIPAN Vet get the Full "Hunter" Field Target set up.

Whoa .. ya don't see this on the FT courses very often
huh.gif
How about a SHORT Bull Pup set up to shoulder and handle similar to a long gun, yet offer far more hold configurations than a long gun.
Shot on shoulder ... Shot across knees ... Shot Deadman too !! It is comfortable doing all these positions. The added front rail and LONG handle/saddle aids in elevated or down angle shooting along with offhand aid as well.
If your on level ground the Long handle can be removed and then you place the V yoke of your tripod into the specialty made V mount on end of air tube.

As set we're shooting JSB Monster 13.4's @ 805 fps. At 50 yards in no wind nearly hole in hole if steady enough. It was used this last weekend at a club match proving it can indeed play the game at a high level.

What is your shot count using 13.4's at 805 ( 20 fpe)?

Scott,

With some internal mods done to help efficiency it looks to be @ 85-90 or a tad better. (* likely go over a 100 ) This is a semi WAG being this past weekend on the 250 bar fill, practiced for a bit for @ 20 or so shots, then the 52 shot match, let a few other guys shoot it a bit figuring another 20 or so and still had 150 reading on the gauge. my Regs set point is @ 122 bar.

* Corrected SET POINT & projected shot count info after reading my original mods thread.

That’s a nice set up. I haven’t participated in any air rifle matches, do they have a class for bullpups or rifles under a certain length? If not they should consider it especially with the popularity of these compact air rifles growing.

No specific class for pups ..... power limits, how shot & aids used etc dictate FT class and not the gun shot for the most part. ( There are AAFTA rules tho )

Very cool Scott.

I will have a similar set up in the next few days, as I just got shipping notice on the comma wheel for my new Midas Tac and Shorty stock is @ the woodworker getting Anschutz rail inletting.

The MAC1 hamster will go in the rail, and it has a rectangular "foot" much like your attachment.

This is the .20 Short. Plan is to work up 16x and 24x yardage marks and have the potential to shoot Hunter or Open. I haven't had a scope with 16x marking since the rule got changed from 12x to 16x. This scope/rig combo will allow me to shoot Hunter again, if I feel the need.

I also have a black Brian Samson butthook like your gray one, have considered fitting it to the .20 Short but not 100% on that yet. Will shoot it a bit with OEM buttpad and other improvements first.

Making a gun fit the role is all part of the fun.

(My ft Vet special will just have the ole plain beech stock of Ukraine days, not the fancy red lam like yours).

I like the Taipan bullpups. I started with something similar, a Diana Skyhawk with a laminated stock. I eventually went with a 3D printed stock that cut quite a bit of weight.

My FT-PUP. Been shooting it for a couple of years in mostly Hunter Division.

8.2 lbs. with scope ready to go.

28.38" overall length

JSB 10.34@933fps

100 shots on a 25mpa fill (3600psi)

After finishing up some customer tunes this afternoon, decided that my LEFT HAND was in harms way when held over the handle. While one thinks he/she may never have afinger or holding position that may get your hand shot ! ... SAFETY FIRST so I fabricated a Shorty LDC/Extension can to the factory shroud.

As picture shows my hand is now behind the muzzle while supporting it and it is quieter too. Silly quiet.

AS too the Sampson adjustable butt plate ( Not technically being a hook BTW ) has had it's adjusted position anchored better via a few daubs of E6000 adhesive.

In the shoulder pocket a strip of 3M rubber traction tape same as what in on the bottom of Butt and Handle. Good Stuff !

Just shot the VET a our local CLUB FT match yesterday. Shooting the JSB "Redesigned" Monster pellet at @ 815 fps the VET shot fantastic !!!

While Missing 1/2 my offhand shots ( My bad ) the vet only missed 2 of 50 shots ( excluding offhand ) in winds that went from nearly calm to 7-8 mph.

IT WORKS and work quite well to my surprise. While it won't be my primary Competition FT rig, it certainly will be my back up gun and be used for club events etc ..

Well ... Septembers "Club" FT match had wind !! In the shooting of match with the VET, it had me shaking my head why 6 seasons ago i gave up on shooting 20 fpe class Field target with .177 caliber air rifles.

So ... lets make the VET a .20 caliber !!

Fabricated a .20 12G standard choked LW barrel, made a new Probe / Shuttle assembly having the o-ring on probe stem, slightly reshaped the single shot tray to handle a .20

Hell yea !!! it shoots like my primary FT long guns now, tho takes a bit more technique to shoot it equally being so short and tall in profile. heard of a few who have .20 converted there TIAPAN pups .. now i join them.

Long live .20 caliber !!!

Nice bullpup the stock is awesome. The butt hook is nice as well, are they permitted in matches? Please keep me informed on your progress with this bullpup, I'm interested in a bullpup and if I can use it for FT/EFT BUCKET & STICKS that would be great!!

Butt "plate" is an adjustable style a buddy purchased from overseas some where ? It is 3D printed having adjustable wings top & bottom. IT IS NOT A HOOK having NO under or over shoulder support mechanics .. SO it is Hunter Class Legal.

How being shot .... Sort of a Deadman position, butt on knee, bipod out front with NO upper body contact outside of Butt Plate in the corner of forearm and bicep.

Did you find shooting your the Vet (light weight and with the weight towards the stock) to be more or less stable for off-hand shots, compared to your RAW?

They shoot very similar ... a bullpup you hold rifle against your chest shooting very sideways to target, as such your upper body is key to stability.
Due too my RAW being set up to shoot off a knee the optics are placed more forward than a conventional set-up, as such able to hold it very similar to the bullpup.
Gun for Gun ... Ergonomics of hand position, thumb up especially the RAW is for myself the more consistent or appears so.
