Had a chance to get out with my brother again this past weekend to our local dairy farms for a bit of pesting on the ground squirrels.  Arrived at the farm did our morning ritual of checking our zeros and shooting paper for a bit while it warmed up and the squirrels started to come out of there dens.  It was not a long wait and and had just sighted the Mutant in at 50 yards using the JSB 18.1 gr pellets. The gun printed a dime size group at that distance and I was very happy with that.

My brother ended the day with around 20 with his Cricket .25 and best shot for him was 115 yards, most shots from 70-100 yards.  I ended the day with 17 for the Mutant and best shots were two back to back at 101 yards, not bad for a 13" barrel! I'm liking this little Mutant! Most of my shots ranged from 40-80 yards and the wind was non-existent so pellet trajectory according to Chairgun was spot on!

    A few pics I took…until next time!

Great day! Thanks for sharing! I love a good Taipan Discovery combination. It looks like you both were fitted nicely with Discovery scopes. That head shot left nothing for the imagination of what's left inside.

101 yards back to back speaks nicely as to your taste in equipment (love for all the Taipans) and the skills to back it up.

Here's my Taipan Veteran shorty in 22 when I still could call her mine, she's with Jtrobb now…

These Taipans sure can put the smack down in the field.

Nice work!  I have been waiting since November for the action to heat up again.  The sack on the two in the third picture makes ya understand just how prolific these pests are at the breeding game.  Shoot all you can, they will make more :)

Wow, with that short of a barrel, that is VERY impressive!  So cool.  Have you tried slugs through it?

I have not, but really not interested to shoot them because the power is not there IMO. I'm shooting the 18gr JSB at 830 for three mags on the reg and this is pretty accurate for my pesting needs.

    Wiseguy,

A dairy?  Ground Squirrels?  What looks like the Sierras in the background?  What part of the San Juaquin Valley are you in?

I'm a Tulare boy originally, now on the Central Coast (Squirrel Mecca).

From the looks of the mountains, I'd say you're in the north end of the SJV.

I have a .22 Mutant Shorty and it is the best PCP I have ever owned. Just love the thing. It's so consistantly accurate and so quiet!

    Good shooting!

I love my Taipan shorty in .22!!  I used the varmint knockers 22.5 grain at 815 fps and was very impressed how accurate they are. Head shots on ground squirrels out to 70 yards no problem!!  That was the farthest I was able to find the squirrels. I’m sure i can stretch it out some more.  Great shooting by the way!!

Since you have the exact same gun as I do, did you have to increase the power to get them to shoot at that speed?  These 18.1gr JSB's are so accurate out of this little gun!

Hey wiseguy yes I cranked it all the way in and then backed it out just to where the gun would stay cocked.  I have the DonnyFL hammer spring speed dial.

Very nice shooting indeed!  I've got a ..22 Mutant standard and it is probably my favorite airgun.  Backed off the power from stock. It is shooting JSB 18.1 right at 910, and is right where I like it. Quiet , good shot count, and extremely accurate. Shoots most pellets well. Glad you were able to get out!
