Taipan mutant leaking at lower pressure

I've had my mutant for about 5 years. Thousands of rounds. Still pushing jsb 18gr at 880fps.

However i have recent seemed to have developed a leak at lower pressures. When I get to around 150bar, I can hear air hissing out the breech.

I am assuming this is likely a poppet issue - no longer sealing the valve face without full pressure.

Before I start taking it apart, is there anyone that sells a replacement poppet and oring kit? I would like to get the parts on hard before I take it apart so I don't have to store it in pieces waiting for delivery.

Thanks!

I've never touched anything except the hammer adjuster since I got it. IIRC from previous shot strings, the regulator is set around 135bar, from the factory.

It is definitely a regulated gun. I was doing a short shot string the other day, and got five 879's in a row...now that you mention it, the poppet would be at plenum pressure, and not tank pressure. Perhaps the regulator is going out too?

Yeah for that reason I’m thinking more likely an O-ring is the culprit, despite the fact O-rings usually have the opposite behavior unless there is a defect in the mating surfaces. 5 years in, it’s due for a reseal anyway so might as well do that. If you don’t get a new poppet, give its sealing face a careful inspection under magnification to see if it could use a light lapping with the valve with a modest abrasive.

following that excellent video, i got it apart.

The orings at the breech end of the tube (i'm not even sure what the valve face or poppet is in here, there doesn't seem to be moving parts...) are flattened on one side, and round on the other, sort of looks like a cross between an oring and a gasket. i am gonna assume those should be round, and are likely the source of my issue.

I've got 4 orings total, is anyone certain what size the mutant uses? Kind of hard to measure them.

So I got new orings put in and it still leaks. Seems to be coming from the valve pin grub screw hole at the bottom of the action.

I also managed to do something that is causing the trigger to not reset now, so it won't even cock unless i push the trigger forward. The first stage tension adjuster doesn't seem to do anything.

Is there anyone that services these older Taipans? I am ready to send it to a professional before I **** it up beyond repair.

I don't know if this info. is actualized. Worth a try. I got this information from other AG forums.

In more than 4 years of use, the only leak I have had in my Mutant short was through the regulator's breather/vent hole in the air tube. The problem were not the o-rings, but the regulator seat. Supposedly the regulator is no that difficult to fix, but I was not able to polish/fix/change the seat and decided to install a Huma regulator. No more leaks and very consistent, even better than the original.
