Taipan Mutant .25

I take no pleasure in being right about it not being released any time soon as I'm one of the biggest Mutant fans here. I'm not too impatient for the Mutant 25 though.

Maybe it's because I already have a Mutant 22 and I don't like to buy two of the same gun but, other than the awesome out of the box accuracy and compact size, the main thing I love about my Mutant is how quiet it is. I have yet to find any 25 cal (with the proper amount of power) be that quiet.

If anyone could make a 25 cal quiet, it would be the guys that make the Mutant but, it is going to have to be very special to make me replace my Cricket 25...

At this point, I can't imagine what could be causing such a delay (if they are even working on a 25 at all). If it's all about trying to make the anti-double load feature work, they could leave it out for me. Of all the new features I could get excited about, that would be very far down the list and has a big "so what" factor. I would prefer that they just used a (much) better wood and added a forward cocking lever.

"Dairyboy"From what I've heard there really beefing everything up for the .25 not simply throw in a different barrel and probe and go. From what was said from dman1114 who is the guy to talk to they have a prototype that I believe they were doing accuracy tests and such and should hit production soon.
It might well be true but it's the same message that we've been hearing for a long time and it hasn't been followed by anything from the actual company, or any of the stores that import and sell the Mutant. I hear too much bs from 3rd hand sources to pay any attention anymore.

The one video that was posted which apparently showed the 25 with the anti double feed, looked identical to the 22 is every single way. To the point where I don't know if I believe it was the 25 cal at all.

I'm not accusing anyone of lying or anything like that (I don't know any of the sources for this info) but the one thing that makes me doubt the most is that, apparently, the guy that actually designed the Mutant was pushed out of the company and had his ideas effectively stolen.

He (the Mutant designer) has videos on YouTube (which I don't understand) where I'm told that is what he is saying, before introducing his Mutant clone under a different brand name.

If this is the case, I'm not sure a redesign of any sort is a good thing. I don't have patience for new models with tons of issues that the customers have to deal with. This is especially true when the new models offer no real improvement, which is true for 99% of new models these days.

Either way, until we hear that the Mutant 25 is on order at Talon Tunes or WildWest and they are taking pre-orders, I am going to assume that there is no Mutant 25 planned for release in 2017 or any other year.

Also, if I see even a hint of a redesign, I won't buy one until it's been out for a while and I'm satisfied that it's worth buying. Someone else can deal with all the new model teething problem nonsense. Just because the existing Mutant is good, doesn't mean anything. The Cricket is good but the Colibri was an abomination.

"Dairyboy"Lol just because it's being beefed up doesn't mean it's going to have issues. Im assuming that's why it's taking so long is because there actually taking the time to test it to see if there are any issues before sending it out to the consumer.
if you catch wind of anything else related to the .25 would you be so kind to share it with us?

Pretty excited for this gun to come out.

Thanks!

That's true but it depends what "beefing it up" means. If it's just using stronger alloys to cops with the extra power, all I would have to say about that is "good".

I don't believe that any sort of "beefing it up" would cause this much of a delay though. It doesn't make any sense to me. It sounds like something that somebody offered as suggestion on a forum once that then got regurgitated into fact.

I just hope it isn't changed too much from the original winning design, especially if the guy responsible for that awesome design is no longer there to oversee it. You can't blame a man for being hesitant about a whole new design - given what we've seen from other (usually reliable) companies lately.

Either way, Shot Show just happened and there was no Mutant 25 announcement, so it's just a twinkle in it's daddy's eye right now. Most of us have seen the process for new releases before:

There is usually an announcement plus pics of a prototype from a show. There are preview review type videos. Then the stores start taking pre-orders, then..., somewhere between 2 and 11 months later, the first ones arrive on people's door steps.

People have been saying that the Mutant 25 release is imminent a whole bunch of times over the last year or two. A number of usually reliable sources even offered expected release dates. It was meant to have been here by November 2016 and November 2015 (and probably before that too).

Believe me, I want it to be available as much as anyone but I was born cynical.

For reliable info, someone should ask WildWest or TalonTunes if they have any concrete info.

In fact, this thread started with expected release dates for the 25 and they were Feb or March 2017. This apparently came from from the manufacturer (again). Well.. it now February and nothing. Not even pre-orders yet.

Is anyone really holding their breath for a March release? What about April? May anyone? Or maybe June.... yeah definitely by June, well... June / July but no later than that.... unless it's August....

What is your source for this if I may ask?

Someone posted about it here a while ago and posted a link to a YouTube clip of the guy who was meant to be the original designer. I honestly have no idea how reliable the source was.

I remember that the gun in the video looked exactly like the Mutant apart from the stock which looked exactly like the current Vulcan stock. Unfortunately I don't speak Russian (or whatever the language was) so I only have what I read here to go on.

This was the gun although I'm not sure if this is the same video with the Mutant designer.

my bet is that, like with most things, there is probably 2 sides to the story.

From a Guy in Contact sitt the owner:

OK so since we're on the subject.....

Still no dates... I'm not gonna even speculate.

So far what I know the standard .25 will be 700 mm long and the long will be 800 mm.

At this time a shorty won't be offered. (They don't feel there will be much demand ...)

They have a few working prototypes ... the anti double load is working great.

As far as power... standard is slinging JSB 2,2g at 262 m/s
The long is shooting them at 277 m/s.

The standard with JSB 1.645 is shooting 292 m/s for 37 shots..
Didn't get that info on the long...

Without regulator the standard is shooting JSB 2,2g at 300 m/s

They will be testing for accuracy this week... then if all goes well I would imagine they will start assembing...

Now this is straight from the man...

So have patience.. and hopefully it won't be to much longer.
