Tactacam vs sideshot vs phoneskope vs...

Aloha Redick,

I have the sideshot phone scope set up, atn x-sight 4K 5-20 day/night, and just picked up a tactacam fts 5.0

with the sideshot setting it up with my iPhone X take a little tweaking to get the video right. But when I’m in the field the focus on my phone always needs to be adjusted something about the auto focus, it was frustrating for me.

with the atn I did the butler creek modification on the objective and the day videos are great, it’s the weight that makes it a challenge when in the field hunting unsupported, so I use a tripod shooting out of a hunting blind.

with the tactacam, the setup was very easy. Once I got the camera set up and focused with the crosshairs and target I don’t have to keep refocusing it like my iPhone. Also the weight is nothing compared to the atn and the video quality is very good. I picked up the tactacam from foxoptics for $429.00 shipped to Hawaii, also it was a package deal with an extra battery and remote. Hope this helps you out.

Excellente just what I wanted to hear a real user review. Ty Tactacam it is

I bought the Tactacam setup early on and paid $100 more. It's a good system and it's easy to change out from gun to gun, just slide on the adapter and tighten two allen screws. The video quality is good. My only complaint is the light on the buttons is hard to see in sunlight and I've left it on recording accidentally a couple of times. When in doubt I slide the battery out for a second. BTW, it's a good idea to slide the battery out when you are storing it. Leaving it in will drain it down over time.

Hope you like it.

I picked up a Tactacam 4.0 for $200 and then the FTS for $130. It's mounted on my HW100BP-K. They have very good tech support and answer questions almost immediately through email. I've used several times hunting in the thick stuff and never noticed it gettin in the way. They recommend a scope with a long eye relief. It works flawless on the Arken Arken SH-4.

$330 is more pocket friendly than $430! What are some differences between the 4.0 & 5.0?

The image is reversed/mirrored with my Android on a Sideshot. Cocking the rifle is very loud. Always have to fiddle with the phone to turn it on and zoom. What you see in the phone is a different size in the recording. Either seeing the scope tube around the cross hairs or too little field of view. Takes time to get it set up for every session :(
Tacticon is the correct image(not reversed). Cocking the rifle isn't as loud. Push one button and it is recording. View live through your phone app . Control through the phone app or the cameras push buttons(2). Can view through the scope or just mount the camera on your piciatanny rail or barrel. Takes a little bit of practice to be good at it's functions. Mine does freeze up once in a while and I think I confuse it with my confusion of operating it.....simply leave the app and turn it back on and good to go again. Easy to move from one rifle to another without buying extra scope brackets that the Sideshot needs. $429.00 seems to be the standard price for the 5.0 with scope mount. Beats the Sideshot for sure unless you get the GoPro Sideshot for 3 times the price.

I can only vouch for the PhoneSkope pro version and the PhoneSkope original V2 ratchet strap Phoneskope. I bought a new to me v2 and I had trouble getting the camera view clear and centered. Any little bump would throw off the center. I sent it back to PhoneSkope to have it converted to the Pro version which is a scope tube clamp version. This set up is rock solid and anytime I take it off and put it back on it is spot on. I actually accidentally knocked my Firefly off and it fell in the floor of my truck while pesting. I grabbed it and put it back on and it was exactly where it shoud be. No hassles at all with the Pro version. Having said this I think a Sideshot Gopro version might possibly be a little better in the fact that the camera in it's final position is very compact and close to the scope tube where the PhoneSkope sets further away from the scope tube.

First, I would recommend the ATN X-sight. The integrated camera system makes filming much easier.

However, I also have a Side-Shot that holds my phone. I had the Tactacam but it never mated up with my scope well and gave crappy video. Then when I updated the firmware on my Tactacam it failed and was bricked. I sent it back for a full refund. What kind of company ships a product like that which cannot have the firmware updated by an sd card? One that is still working out the bugs.

The Side-Shot is much more reliable to me...
