Tactacam FTS on a Compact Scope Question

@Gerry52 I’m glad you responded. I thought about calling you this morning but I wasn’t sure if you were up or available due to the time difference. The issue I’m having on the Veyron is that the camera is blocked by or snugged tightly against the turrets - which turret depends upon the orientation of the camera. I’m not sure that I was able to slide the camera all the way into the mount with it snugged up against the windage turret. Leaving it in the mount and trying to adjust it against the turret was even more difficult from what I remember.

I also had to remove my throw lever. The other issue is that the lip next to the two hex screws used to tighten the FTS mount around the ocular lens runs into the pic rail preventing me from orienting the mount vertically. The result is that I was able to squeeze the camera into the mount diagonally on the windage turret side. However, the picture I recorded came out crooked because I hadn’t downloaded the app to check the reticle. I don’t want to mount it on the left because it will interfere with me adjusting the parallax knob and I need to be able to access that freely.

Dave,

I'm using the Tactacam FTS on a Discovery VT-3 3-12x44 FFP (same as the Vector Veyron and the USO TS-12X) -- and a PP700.

Yes, compact scopes and Tactacam require some adjustments and ingenuity. 👍

I turned the FTS in a position that would allow the camera to go below the windage turret. However, the screws of the UTG dovetail-to-picatinny adapter rail still stuck out too far and interfered with the camera. So, I ground them down by 1/8". Yes, I did loose the magnification throw lever. Depending on your gun you might have to mount the scope a bit higher so that the camera will fit under the windage turret without interfering with the action or rail.

Hope you'll find a solution.

Matthias

It definitely sounds like you ran into a similar issue. Swapping rings is what I was trying to avoid. I’ll mess with it this evening and see what I can figure out. Hope I don’t have to swap out rings. Thanks for the suggestions.

Well this will have to do on the Vector Veyron 3-12x44mm. I’m unable to orient the FTS mount completely vertically because of the lip on the part of the mount that clamps onto the the ocular lens.

Although mounting the scope in higher rings could clear the rail, but that brings up the next issue….
clearing the turrets. Using higher rings doesn’t seem like it will help the camera clear the elevation turret so this will have to do for now.

I’ll test this setup tomorrow.

I don't suppose it is necessary to orient the FTS "completely vertically." You can just turn the camera in its slot to righten the image (check live on the cellphone screen).

Your setup has the camera above the windage turret, and on the right side of the elevation turret. ➔ Maybe your setup works better if the camera was below the windage turret, completely away from the elevation turret. That's how mine is installed..... 🤔

The thumb screws for my rings protrude out too far to orient the camera below the windage turret. I’ll try it the way that it is for now. I have to get used to this contraption being on my scope. Especially with the removal of my throw lever. It will be fine for target practice. Hunting with it will be a bit awkward I suppose.

Oh yeah, I forgot — I also had to dremel down a bracket of the rear scope mount.

It hurt at first, cutting into the pristine aluminum. But once started the feeling subsided, and now the Tactacam mounts well. 😊

I got used to the contraption on my pistol pretty quickly, I can even find the ON button without looking.....

And the addition is well worth the money, weight, and size. Watching your pellet arch toward the quarry, seeing how the wind is pushing the pellet back on target that your wind correction sent on a path away from it, observing frame by frame its 5 mil descent before connecting, then seeing the quarry's cart wheel to death.... — yeah, it's well worth it. 😄
