Synthetic FX crown update

Fellow airgunners,

Just wanted to update my experience with my fx crown so far. I had to send the gun for warranty repair almost immediately since taking delivery. The gun suffered from significant regulator creep like weatherby had discussed. I thought shooting a few tins of pellets through the gun would reverse the issue but I didnt. Disappointing to say the least for a brand new, top of the line air rifle.

However, the guys (Brian, Newman and Ernest) at the new stateside warranty repair were fantastic!! They helped me troubleshoot the gun and then seamlessly covered the warranty shipping and gun repair. Brian personally called me today to tell me that the washers were faulty along with a faulty pressure gauge that I didnt know about.

I'm looking forward to shooting a new chrony string and seeing how it compares. Would I still recommend the fx crown? Absolutely because even in its diminished state I was still able to shoot MOA groups at 100 yards with the gun. Ergonomics and shot count are great.

Hope that helps,

Erik

When will airgun makers STOP using the public as their beta-testers? It never ceases to amaze me how many HIGH-DOLLAR airguns are delivered with problems. To spend $1500.00+ on an a gun and have it show-up with a problem(s) is ridiculous. Do they just test the first one off-the-line and just assume that all the rest will be fine? Its why i buy everything used. I'll let someone else take the retail hit and any associated defects to be ironed-out.

Not at all, but statistically (in my case) I own 4- RAW’s never a problem I didn’t cause myself... including dropping 2 one I literally broke the stock on dropping it (on a cement floor from about 4’ ) was sure i needed the gun gone through plus sure I bent the barrel called Martin he just laughed said send it but sure it’s fine! IT WAS!, bought 1 new fx crown problems from day one, and said would get a ticket to send gun to new repair facilities in NC never happened! So ya I’m biased... One more detail, try calling FX see if they put you through to Fredrick...

Can’t speak for Theoben of England etc. I just know what I like and what works for me ( dependable, consistent, accurate & durable! ) & That’s RAW, I wanted to like The fx but it and the company let me down! That’s hard earned money to me, if the company and its dealers are to busy to take care of their patrons then so be it, my money goes elsewhere... simple!

It's very simple, Theoben or RAW whatever you call them nowadays failed to develop new products and so as a company have failed more than once, the arrogance of the company and their attitude towards customer service whilst sitting at the top of the pile 20 years ago was akin to SEGA or BLACKBERRY, remember them?

I am not saying FX is without problems far from it, I have 3 Crowns, two are a pain.

I have two Daystate Redwolfs and both are exceptional.

FX won't go the same way as Theoben if they try to stay at the top of the pile and that is what I think they are doing by constantly releasing (or promising to release) new products, that both excite the target audience and keep them spending money on what is a puff of air behind a lump of lead! how exciting can you make it?

People rave about the LandRover Defender, one of the worst vehicles ever made but still an Icon, just like the original Rapid 7, what a pile of crap that was, but utterly brilliant and ahead of it's time, genius to put it mildly.

Of course the RAW is reliable, the design is 30 years old, just liike the VW Passat, it works so why change it, just fiddle with little bits and keep it going, but you know what, it's a boring product, at least FX products are exciting!

I'm been tempted to buy a Crown but the warranty situation worries me. I live near AOA but as they no longer do any warranty work and I'd have to ship it across the country if I had a problem. BTW I was in AOA last week and they had only one Crown in stock, it was laminate and I wanted synthetic. I was told they ordered 150 but the factory is only sending 68. Obviously the Crown is still a hot item.

Hawkeye69,

I have the Synthetic Crown in .22 cal. It is an incredible rifle, it shoots anything into a ragged hole, not fussy at all about brand or pellet weight. The only thing I do for pellet weight is ,turn down the power to a three for the lighter pellets. Just shot this, today at 72 yds. Upper right, lower right, and lower left is the crown with 3 different weights and brands Each target has 19 shots(a full magazine). Upper left and center is the FX Boss with 44 gr. JSb. There are 3 magazines (24 shots) on the center target.

Well just got my crown back from FX USA for warranty repair for the regulator creep. Unfortunately, the gun is worse now than it was before I sent it in. extreme spred is more than a 100 fps across a shot string. Sometimes I will have shots on power wheel setting 5 that will range from 880 fps on up to 930fps. Cold bore shot is still starts out around 840 fps then walks up to where it settles out. Gun is much more erratic now. By the shot string you can see the regulator is probably malfuctioning.

I anticipate the fx crew here in the us will make it right and plan on contacting them Monday for the next steps. They have been very helpful so far and I'm appreciative.
