Super Slugs – Super Excited!!

I just ordered. 😊
Slugs.
At almost pellet-prices, basically.

I'm super excited!!! 😃

All I need now is that ONE slug groups well at 100 yards – and I will have entered Airgun Heaven. Shooter's Nirvana. Pellet Paradise (oops, make the slug paradise) 😎

The new high speed press of Nick must be awesome to produce them so quickly that he can lower the price so much...!
400 slugs for 19 bucks at NSA!

I was for ever looking for pellets with good BCs for my long-range needs – and in the end I just had to realize the TRUTH: At 100 yards (and say 33FPE in .22cal) pellets are just a joke in comparison to a slug. If both group equally well in perfect, indoor conditions, fine –
but once you take the comparison outside, it's a different world...!

For example:
● An imperceptible breath of air (2 mph) will throw off my high-BC pellet by 3.3" (8.4cm).
The slug stays much better on course, only 1.1" (2.8cm) drift.

● A wind I can feel and see, say 5 mph, will throw my pellet in the dirt, 8.2" off (20.9cm)!
The slug only veered 2.8" (7.1cm). With just a little bit of wind correction I can hit my target.

● With a good pellet, my quarry only get the left-overs of my 33FPE muzzle energy, less than 13FPE = the flight cut down the energy to less than half.
But the slug delivers, and with authority, more than 24FPE.

● To reach out and touch 150 yards, the pellet has a meek 8FPE of energy left.
The slug carries whooping 21FPE, for a good wapppp!!

I just bought the whole slew of .22 NSA slugs that Nick offers, some with two different head sizes: I just know that one will shoot well out of my LW.
17.5 grain (where can you get slugs this light for your lesser powered guns?! – 17.5gr, 20.2gr!!) 👍
20.2 grain
23.0 grain
24.8 grain
27.5 grain
28.5 grain

Too bad I have to wait a whole month until someone brings these down to Peru....! :'( Patience, yeah, I'll need some fast, like, right now....!

Happy shooting!

Matthias

I do shoot nsa slugs from my impact too but they ain't in pellet price. They have lower counts, meaning to get the same amount of pellets and slugs, the slug will cost more. Also, they price it about same at what prymaid air and airgun depot price their pellets. So we think oh they are same price. But not true. Pyramid air and airgun depot they price their pellet higher, to sell their buy 3, get 1 free deal. These pellets are worth $14, not $19. Do they math. 14 times 4 tins is $56. Now 19 times 3 (4th tin is free) that is $57. PA and AD just make you think you are getting 4th free. The 4th tin pay for itself by pricing each tin higher. Duh. So you are paying $19 for 350-400 (depending on weight) for nsa slug. And you can get 500 pellet USB for $14. So basically they are not same price as you claim. You get 100 more pellets and save $5. Buying 1 tin save you only $5. But do the math. When you buy in high quantities. You are saving a lot more. So in theory. Slugs are not the same price as pellet. Personally I do not think slugs will get to the point you can get 500 slugs for $14. Time will tell.

2fast2furios,

yes, in my excitement I said "basically" at pellet prices 😎 -- but sure, doing the math, it's not exact, these slugs are just so much closer to pellets in price than any slugs used to be...! 😊

So, taking a slug and a pellet with a comparable weight:

5.6c/pc = 340 for $19 = 24.8gr NSA Slug (it's actually 350 pc., I adapted for the lighter weight)

4.5c/pc = 200 for $9 = 25.4gr JSB Monster Redesigned (200 for $12, and if I use the 4-for-3 deal, 25% off, so $9)

Comparing 5.6c/pc to the common slug prices up until now:

15.0c/pc = 3x more expensive = the NSA slugs from the slow machine

24.0c/pc = 4x more expensive = Rat Sniper Slugs, 22.6g

40.0c/pc = 7x more expensive = Varmint Knockers, 22.5gr

56.0c/pc = 10x more expensive = MrHollowPoint, 26gr

I think we are entering the golden era of long range airgunning and hunting!

Matthias

PS: The median price for normally weighted pellets is (acc. to HardAir Magazine), 4.0c/pc, but of course, 24/25 grainers contain much more lead and are therefore more expensive.

Pellets and slug are not sale by its weight. Smh. .177 8gr cost $14 on PA. And .22 is double the weight but cost $19. By your logic wouldnt the .22 cal cost $28? As for slug. I bought 33gr and 36 gr. For same price and same count. They are different in weight. And how do you explain why 38gr NSA slug I only got 250 count, when 36 I have 275 count. 36 is 3 gr more than 33, yet its same price and count while 38 is only 2 gr more than 36gr and I get less? Your claim about them selling by weight is a lie lol. Manufacturers sell their products base on what they think it's worth and how much they make profit from it. But by weight, amounts, size, etc.

We sell based on weight and run time. Weight is the biggest driver though and we also round everything to the nearest 25 so in the example above it is really just a rounding issue of why the two weights are the same count. All the boxes weigh around the same in 25 caliber regardless of weight of the slug, take into account rounding the nearest 25 multiple.

Actually I priced out 700 NSA .22 slugs 350 of 23gr and 24.8gr plus the $7 (flat rate any size order for 3 day Priority mail) shipping to my door. Ended up being 6.4¢ a slug. Much cheaper than .30 JSBs at 8.9¢ a pellet (not including shipping or taxes) which is what I used to shoot alot of. I then priced out 800 (4 tins) JSB Monster Redesigned pellets to my door plus shipping (upgraded to 3 day Priority like NSA ships always) AND TAX (no tax at NSA) ended up being 6.7¢ a pellet. Sure if you get PA on one of there big sales it'll be cheaper but they are actually very comparable to pellet prices. For my needs I will never buy redesigned monsters again when I can get slugs which are alot more superior for basically same price (actually cheaper)

Nick is doing exactly what everyone asked for... making a quality slug that will shoot better out of a wide variety of guns, lowering the prices, and selling more variety in each caliber. He has made shooting slugs much more accessible to everybody which has given more people the opportunity to use and enjoy them. Still, some complain, you just can't please everybody all the time.

Keep up the great work Nick, I love your slugs and think you're doing great things for us shooters and the industry as a whole!

Stoti

Have they only got cheaper because of H&N slugs are out at a reasonable price now

That is a very interesting point! H&N & JSB have certainly been burning the midnight oil to catch up thats for sure, Nick has invested a lot in equipment, perhaps to step up to the oncoming threat of the mass producers ability to run 6 days a week 24 hours a day and flood the market with a product, thats price point is where the mass market needs it to be.

To the OP! surely once you pay shipping and heavy SA import duties that will have a big effect of the price of the slugs?

I do believe with the interest in slug shooting constantly growing more barrel makers and gun manufacturers will get on board.

Then the ammo makers will follow and if there is a place to make a profit someone will seize the opportunity. The great thing about slugs is they are made on bullet machines, so in a few years we may have slugs choices from NSA, Hornady, Barnes, H&N, .....who knows?

Nick ordered the machine a long time ago I think like a year ago if not more? I personally won't be jumping to JSB or H&N slugs. NSAs slugs are still cheaper than the H&N that show preorder from PA so no need for me to go to them. Plus Nick has had my business for 4-5 years just cause someone new comes around I won't jump ship. Like stoti said he's done what alot of people wanted yet still complaining. I don't get it.

Great if you live in the states , but H&N delivers through out the world at a very good price . If Nick can send to the uk at a reasonable price including import tax then may be we in the UK might buy his slugs
