Super Easy Target Build (video)

Nice vid! I've decided that rubber mulch is a secret ingredient. I made a plywood box that I just stuffed with the stuff. Nothing goes all the way through. Right now, it's mostly my crosman 1322 in the garage. Pokes hole in targets, but doesn't go through. Makes me smile! Will put a handle on it so that I can move it from place to place eventually. Right now I'm too lazy. Using the tote like that is pretty clever.

Thank you all for your kind words. I made this video primarily to share it here with y’all, specially the newer guys that can use ideas like this.

Some folk have mentioned using a 5 Gal bucket, which I did think about, but decided to go with the tote because it had a cleaner look, it sits flat, can be oriented vertically or horizontally, can be used with a pedestal, won’t roll off, and the lid is very easy to take off to replace the cardboard.

I think I will make other videos in due time (something I don’t have a lot of) and cover some items or guns from my point of view.

I've done some penetration testing on a cardboard box filled with the rubber mulch. My Impact, .25 Cal at full power, point blank (3 feet maybe) penetrates less than 6 inches. This stuff has stopping ability! If shooting at 50 yards, an 8 inch deep trap is more than enough for anything up to a .25. Haven't tried .30, but suspect it's not much more than the 6 inches the .25 penetrated.

Good luck with the trap, this stuff works.

I am one of the “new guys” that you referred to earlier and I can’t thank you enough for this simple and clever build idea. I am headed to Home Depot right now and am going to setup 2 of these for my sons and I. Seriously, thank you! I was trying to find a way to build something out of wood, lined with metal plating, that would probably weigh 50-60 pounds....never even considered the rubber mulch!
