Trying to decide if the extra weight is worth the power, carbine vs full length . I would like to be able to put heavy pellets in and get close to 99fpe. How much weaker is the carbine ? Dose anyone have them ? How much lighter dose the carbine feel ? Wish I could get 99 fpe out of the carbine to have that to carry in the woods .

I own and shoot the .25 rifle. It's comparable in length to the Marauder, the Sumatra with it's dual air tubes and longer barrel makes it more front heavy than a Marauder. If your looking to quiet it down, Neil Clagues addition was 1.5" by almost 10". At high power with a 25.39 or 27 grain the gun will still crack very loud. The 44 grain pellets travel sub sonic and are much quieter. My friend has the .22 carbine, it's more manageable, he uses a lightweight leapers and shoots way more comfortably offhand. I'm sorry I can't speak for the difference in power.

I am assuming the one you have is not the carbine ? Do you think going by your friends would you rather have had the carbine ? I have heard that the longer barrel on the non carbine is more powerful and quieter ? If I get one I will use heavy pellets and a Clague ldc.. Just trying to get advice on which one to buy , Its hard to decide when I am not close enough to pyramid air to just hold one . I have a bobcat .25 , but am stuck with one pellet and one speed with out modifying . I've read that out of the box the Sumatra is powerful and not pellet fussy , also you have a lot of power settings .

"NeilClague"If any pellet breaks the sound barrier you will get a loud crack and no muzzle device will prevent that, the only way to stop that is to turn the power down or use a heavier pellet, Neil.
I agree with what you are saying about the small sonic boom that happens when using lighter pellets and going above a certain fps. I would use heavier pellets on high power to get the speed down, and would have you make me an lcd . Would having a longer , say 10 or 11 " lcd and keeping the pellet speed around 900 fps keep the bark down Neil ?

From what I have been told the 10 inch keeps the bark down, but every customer has different requirements. I have been told that on full power they are back yard friendly just as long as the heavier pellets are used and they travel at subsonic speeds, Neil.

PS. If anyone has any questions for me about any of my products please PM me and don't ask them on the forum, just want to keep the clutter down, thanks.

I never shot the 500cc model, but I really like my little carbine. I like it because I hike with it, and needed something that was agile. I would like to have had the extra power, of the 500cc model, and if power was my first consideration I would have got the full size Sumatra, sorry I could not have been more help to you. Here is mine, this gun shoots from the kneeling position better then any gun I ever shot, don't know why but this gun was born to take the kneeling shot, my favorite shooting position to boot. Hat Tip to Neil Clague for the fine work on the lcd.

I appreciate the input. What kind of power are you getting on your carbine, fps, pellet weight ? How loud is it with that beautiful ldc on tip ?

"blackdiesel"This is from a guy on GTA. The Sumatra Carbine is still more powerful than most 25 cals

Not sure what the regulated part of this picture was about, did he put a regulator in the Sumatra ? 900 fps at 33 grains is 59 fpe ..... I am starting to think the difference between the 16" barrel and the 24" barrel is starting to show....
I think he meant tethered. The only regulators I've found for Sumatra are a couple of special builds on youtube.

Not sure he was tethered because the fps was dropping. After looking at that shot string I can see that another consideration would be that on high power the fps starts dropping pretty consistent within 6 shots or so. The fpe would also be dropping ,which is were I think the extra power would come into play while shooting before refilling . Thanks for sharing that .

Why 90fpe?

Just a fact, IF "needing" so much power look for a used Career 707 ( or 707II) about 10 more fpe than the Sumatra in both long and short versions. My .25 long 707II fired 39.4g average 99fps for the first 6 shots, and then downward fast.
And remember the pellets will be traveling over 800 yards so have a BP rated back stop.

I want to move a heavy 53- 60 grain cast at 900 fps to buck the wind better than a .22 lr and put an ldc on it , the smaller bore of a 25 as compared to a 357 n up will be easier for the ldc to handle the air volume, and keep the bark on the down low..
Pyramid air doesn't sell the Career 707 anymore and I'm going to get a refub Sumatra for less.

It will take a decent amount of work to get that platform up to 900fps with a 60g cast slugs ( and do extend your safe backstop/drop out to a full mile+ ) and your shot count "may" be 6. You might well consider the long barrel and naturally if you really need those numbers something with a 25" or so barrel would be a great benefit but if air use doesn't count - wasting enough air for those numbers in a carbine will increase noise to the maximum- .
Is this a DIY project or are you sending it out?

IDK. There are reports on yellow form and gta that these rifles out of the box with the 24" barrel will push 53 n 60 gr cast at 900 + for 6 shots. I have fx , cricket and marauder that have lots of shot count and 46-50 fpe , but just don't have a quiet 100 fpe gun.... I have an rubber mulch trap 20" x 24 " thick with 1/8" steel behind it , Don't think it will even make it through the rubber mulch...
