Sub $700 Bullpup Choices

Hello All,

Picked up my first pcp a couple months ago and am having a great time with it. A buddy of mine (as well as myself) are interested in trying out a bullpup pcp and I wanted to get recommendations for bullpups sub $700. Don't want to go big if neither of us end up liking this style. I've researched on here on AGN and elsewhere online and have come up with the following pcps - hatsan bullboss, kral puncher breaker silent, artemis p-15. These seem to be the most popular but I wanted to see if I was missing any? If it matters, looking for .22 and will be shooting pests, squirrels, rabbits, etc. out to around 75 yards. Looking for reliability (as much can be expected for price point) first, accuracy and silence second.

Appreciate in and all help,

Best Regards,

Chad

If I was going to buy a mid priced bullpup with the hopes of not having to get lucky (P15), I would try a Walther Reign. Unlike most of the other mid priced guns that are either Chinese or Turkish, if the Reign is truly made in Germany, it’s a no brainer. If it’s a quality gun, I could almost live with the plastic stock because it appears to have great ergonomics.

Original price is 649.99, but using the AGNATION coupon brings it down to $487.49. Order it on Friday and you'll even get free shipping.

Thank you to all for the replies so far. Definitely gonna be a tough decision with so many choices. Based on the success of the Marauder, would you guys bet the Akela will be close to as good and end up with a bunch of mods available?

Probably not. I hear it’s made by Kral. So it’s a Kral Akela. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, just a little misleading. If Crosman stocks parts for them, it will be a big plus.

Ohhhh Kral? I'm buying one hope it's lighter than my Puncher Breaker Marine Silent! Hope it shoots as good!

My p15 is my favorite carry gun? I had to put a LW barrel on it to shoot accurately. Soooooo, there goes the cost saving. It is a 25 and Ive read the 22 &117 are less prone to barrel problems, gun is 2 years old so maybe accuracy problem was corrected. Light and accurate (now). Cons, rear cocking

48 + shots @ 760fps.

Great @ original price, not so much once you stick $300 barrel on it,

When I see these 8+ lb bullpups I just click the page

I am hearing some positive feedback on the Benjamin Aklea, nice stock, decent weight, good balance, a nice smooth side lever and shooting 18 gr JSB's at around 960 fps right out of the box! I just took advantage of the free Friday shipping and the coupon and ordered a Cayden this morning. I had a BullBoss and didn't much care for the BullPup style, but the Akela sure has show stopping looks!

I had a Kral PB Silent and a Hatsan BullBoss - both in .25 cal.

The Kral was unreliable and needed a lot of aftermarket parts to resolve the issues. It was far from "silent". I got tired of chasing problems and got rid of it.

The Bullboss was a very good performer with good balance but a bit heavy. The QE barrel made it quite a bit longer than my Cricket or Wildcat.

If I was shooting .22s I would give the Akela a try.

I have some different suggestions, but I think it is worth your reference.

AEA CHALLENGER I think it's the best bullpup choice under $500.
But because they are new brands, many people haven't heard of it.So if you just count the votes,You may miss it.
Here I'll say the reason.

1.For people who are just starting to play PCP.Calculation costs are often wrong,Because the PCP is more accurate and powerful, you will shooting much longer than other kinds of airgun.so the pellet costs more, you need better riflescope. You need to think about how to filling it.So the consumption plan you learn from other air guns is often not enough, because you play pcp for the first time, so it will be underestimated.I think all friends who have PCP will agree. So you ask under $700, but I think $500 would be better for you.

2.AEA challenger is very powerful. .22CAL 70FPE .25CAL 80FPE ..30CAL 105FPE. You'll find that it's much higher than other similar products.pay attention! it has. 30cal and the price is the same. You may not choose 30CAL at the begining. But it has a 30cal model, means that you can easily buy replacement parts if you want. then you can easily have two cal.Other bullpup gun have no choice at this price. You can think about how expensive a 30 CAL gun is.

3.Some people think that it is shallow to look at power. But without power, you can only shooting light pellet. play PCP for the first time do not necessarily know that PCP should be matched with the correct velocity. If your pelltes are not heavy enough, it's hard to shoot long-range outside. No matter how accurate the gun is.Wind will make you crazy. But if you don't shoot long range. Why should you pursue high precision? So power is very improtant.

4.Some people may say that huge power is too waste air. you can just shot few times per filling. That is right.AEA CHALLENGER The volume of the cylinder is 330cc.This is also a big cylinder on the market. So you can got enough good shots with big power per filling.

5.This gun has power adjustment system, you can use any light pellet And don't worry about speed too high(PCP more than 1120FPS The accuracy will be ugly). You can use heavy pellet for long- range shooting.Choice is better than no choice, isn't it?

6.Many friends recommend P15.Challenger's stock is better than P15. Although the wood is same cheap, But don't forget they're all budget guns.So challenger has better workmanship than P15.

7.The most important thing is accuracy.AEA is a new brand, but now we can see the information and video,Their accuracy is very good. Even their budget gun series. So you don't need to upgrade the barrel.Their barrel is very special, and both have good accuracy when use pellet and slug. You may not know that some barrel with choke is not accuracy when shooting slug .It's important for long-range shots. For example, when FX introduced slug, it also introduced a new barrel. So you will find this phenomenon no matter with the price.

That's why I recommend challenger.Even if the price goes up to $700.I'll still recommend it. It also has these advantages in $700 range. In the $500 range bullpup gun, of all the options I know, it's basically invincible. It's just my opinion.

One thing...

The AEA guys need to check their scales..!

They claim that aluminum is as light as carbon fiber -

"High level quality and shooting accuracy. 7075 T6 Aluminum alloy cylinders are strong, safe and light as carbon fiber."

Not even close. If parts have the same shape, carbon fiber is lighter. Even cast carbon fiber, which is a little heavier than fabric based parts is still lighter than aluminum.

Mike

P.s. - Looked again, I noticed, 12lbs....?! Note, under the "Product Details" section, I hope that's another bad scale problem, not an actual gun weight.

Thats actually cool. I did not know about this one.

Oh man if it balances like my FX Wildcats based on its looks that would be PERFECT!

I’m still looking for more people to review this before I pull the trigger. I hate being first to get a brand new gun, but that price and discount is really appealing. If they’re backed by crossman for warranty and parts to fix them, I might just buy anyway!
