Strelok or Chairgun

I dont think the twist rate will matter. I believe its for the guys who are shooting extreme ranges with firearms and want the app to correct for spin drift. I dont think it will effect the trajectory in the distance we shoot our pellet rifles. There are allot of things different and it seems like allot but once you start messing with it its really not hard to navigate or setup for different rifles.

Physics is physics.

True but I dont think an app like chairgun even has settings for spin drift. I normally dont have spin drift on in strelok pro so I turned it on out of curiosity to see how much difference it would be for different twists in an airgun.

Using my .25 Mrod as the rifle.

If it had a 1 in 16" twist barrel spin drift at 100 yds would be 0.3"

If it had a 1 in 20 twist barrel spin drift at 100 yds would be .2"

So only 1/10 of an inch difference at 100 yds.

At 60 yds neither twist even registered a change in poi.

Like I said if you are not going to let strelok pro calculate how much drift you will see based on barrel twist then it doesnt matter what the box says for the barrels twist rate. If you are wanting to let strelok pro calculate that drift and its for an airgun then you can be off slightly and be fine.

Its easy to measure a firearms twist cause you can usually put a rod thru the breech end of the barrel with a tight fitting patch. Mark the rod after you get the patch started in the barrel and hold a tape measure or yard stick next to the rod with 0 at the mark. As you push the rod thru the barrel it will spin with the rifling. when the mark makes a full rotation the twist rate will be whatever inches it lands at. Some airguns dont allow easy access to the breech so you may need to remove the barrel or carefully do it from the muzzle end with a muzzle protector. I think most manufacturers should be able to provide you with the twist rate of their barrels as well.

I believe the interface for strelok and strelok pro varies slightly cause pro has more options. For strelok pro once you have all your data entered in for the type of scope and reticle, pellet, velocity, scope height , zero and all the good stuff I might have missed you go to the home screen for the rifle selected. At the home screen you can enter the range, slope angle, wind speed and wind direction. If you do that it will show you the drop for that specific range using the inputs you entered in those boxes. If you want to see a spread sheet or drop card for all ranges at once there are 8 buttons at the bottom of that home screen with different symbols. You can tell what most buttons are by the symbol. On the top row the 4th button which is the farthest right button it looks kinda like a calendar or spread sheet. If you touch that one it opens the range card. Theres a settings button that looks like a cog wheel where you can select the start range and end range and all other settings you need to display whatever data you want in that card. If you need I could probably post pics of each screen.

LDP:

That's interesting. Does it breakdown the twist drift for specific projectiles (i.e. H&N Sport .25 cal. 28.24 gr Baracuda Hunter Extreme). Strelok would be worth the price of admission for that feature alone. I have my kill zone set for 0.5" in Chairgun, so 0.3" is material, especially since I hunt small game out to 100 yds with my FX Wildcat .25 MKI. I'm definitely gonna check out Strelok. I love the technical side of airgunning, particularly ballistics. I must say though, my range card from Chairgun is spot-on, but I would welcome any improvement. You can't be too dead-on!

I dont know if it will change with different pellets. I am willing to bet it might change with different weights and maybe different calibers that have the same weight. I would think the weight for sure would effect spin drift but I have not checked my self.

If strelok is correct about spin drift I believe people who miss a long range shot or see their groups slightly off to one side blame it on a very light breeze or canting. I do think some of that drift was caused by spin drift as well. So if you let strelok calculate that maybe some of those close calls would have been hits.

I am at work and pretty busy so later I will fool around with different pellets and calibers and see how the spin drift changes.

Well LDP, I broke down and sprung for StrelocPro. Unfortunately, my scope is not listed. It is a Sightron 4-16x 42 with a full mil-dot reticle. Also, I'm having a heck of a time accessing the data bases and metric inputs.

UPDATE: I contacted Igor and he explained that my reticle was indeed in the StrelokPro database. It falls under the category of the MilDot (USMC) reticle. Also, after starting to watch the following video series, I am doing much better in setting-up my StrelokPro profile:

I'm having a lot of fun and learning a lot; the StrelocPro platform is much more comprehensive and detailed than Chairgun. It will be interesting to see how different, if at all, the StrelokPro results are from Chairgun. Although I suspect they will not be materially different. StrelokPro is more for long-distance shooting with high-powered firearm rifles, where a high degree of input and processing is necessary. Chairgun is tailor-made for the unique ballistics profile of subsonic airguns. I must say, I find it hard to imagine a range card more effective than the one I generated with Chairgun for my FX Wildcat .25 Mk1 with Sightron scope and DonnyFL SUMO moderator. I have my baby ranged out to 100 yds, and the Chairgun hold-offs are producing tight groups in the red at all distances out to 100 yds in the field. At any rate, I can use all the edge I can get against those wascally wabbits!

Thanks for that, LDP. Done and done! I have my FX Wildcat .25 MK1 with a DonnyFL SUMO, shooting H&N Hunter Extremes ranged to 100 yards. So, the twist rate metric is probably not material. I am, however, having fun tinkering with Streloc Pro's functions. I gotta say, my Chairgun holdoffs are spot-on in the field. But, anything I can learn or improve my ballistics from Streloc is welcome :)

Hello- my vote is for Strelok Pro, and here is why: I purchased the ios version of Strelok Pro on Friday 8/3/18 and found that the reticle for the scope I am using was not included in the reticle file (Athlon Midas Tac 4-16 x 44) I emailed the company and they said they would add it. Update received via ios on 8/8/18. That, my friends, is responsive service

Kind regards,

There are folks like me that will never own a smart phone......ever........for security reasons. My phone is a dumb, really dumb, phone that is only a phone, but that is another subject entirely. I use Chairgun because it runs on my PC. All you need is a range card. My issue is that the print routine in Chairgun does not work well with my HP printer.
