Steel tx2 tank for texan 45

Both of the new Texans with the TX2 upgrade I've seen this month had Carbon Fiber bottles. Honestly, I've never seen a steel Texan bottle. The origional metal bottles are ALUMINUM and only rated to 3000 PSI.

I have two of the aluminum bottles on my parts shelf that came off Texans when I switched to CF bottles long before AirForce did. They don't even make good pony bottles for refilling in the field since they only go to 3k and will not fill a rifle to full pressure.

I'm keeping my aluminum bottles that got taken off Texans to use as buddy bottles to fill in the field for some of my smaller bore air rifles. I bought a basic gaugeless valve from China and filled to 3100 it will put a nice single topoff on a gun like a Marauder (fills/equalize to 2900 and that's where it starts the best curve anyway!). Another I got an 18mm x 1.5 style Ninja valve, regulated to 2000 for filling my Benjamin Chief.

I keep the buddy bottle in a Camel Bac with some other field / hunting stuff. Works very well when out hunting squirrel or rabbit or just plinking on the property at random targets I've set up.

Hello Kinetic45:

I bought a TexanSS in .457 3 months ago and then the CF upgrade. Big dissepiment that the AL and CF bottles have the same volume. You stated that you changed to CF before Airforce had their CF. Can you possibly provide a make/model for a CF bottle with more vol that will accept a TX2 valve? I have yet to dismount the TX2 from the AL bottle but for more vol I will do so.

Many thanks,

Ed

Thank you for your reply.

I am actually looking to increase volume. Vel at 3600 psi is excellent using Hunters Supply's .452 bullet 357 grains and as to power...passed clean through 16GA pre-galv steel plate at about 70 yds. Bench getting 1" grps at 100 yds and off-hand about 4". I am hoping to run into a 1L bottle or even a bit more with the same pull length as the AL bottle on the Texan SS.

Many thanks,

Ed
