AOA has the hw95 on sale right now for $300. That is a legendary gun in the springer world and would be good for a starter especially at the sale price. Check the dealer classifieds for the ad.

Dude, you could probably get the Benjamin tuned for less than the cost of a new rifle. Especially in the States. Here in South Africa we arent so lucky. My 2c

The HW95 is a GREAT airgun. But, if for some reason you don't want a break barrel, or don't want to spend that much, Mike Melick offers some great guns. I purchased an XS46U with a full tune in .177 from him I love it. It is super smooth (the HW's are notorious for being twangy out of the box, if that matters) and is very accurate. The only gripe I have is the trigger, but it I can work with it. I am really impressed and swear by Mike and his work. You will be hard pressed to find anything negative about him on any forum.

I shot a RWS 34 in .22 for years before moving up to a Marauder in .25. My gun was made in 1996 and I never had any problems with it and it is easy to cock. It is one of the more affordable guns from Germany and is highly recommended.

The rws 34 is a great choice easy to cock and very accurate easy on recoile and pocket book

HW gets my vote.

the walther terrus or just about any of the new walthers in general is a genious kitt if you give them a quick lube tune
