STAGGERING REDWOLF SAFARI! ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY?

Okay so I got my SAFARI on Monday, I planned the gun around the JSB Monster .177 13.43g pellet, I have the .22HP and other .25 & .30 airguns.

1) I planned to shoot the Monster at 30FPE, boy was I dissapointed when it wouldn't group at all on high and medium curves, 1000FPS+ and 940FPS high/medium.

2) The .22 Monster seems to shoot better the faster you push it, not the same with the .177 version obviously!

3) The JSB .177 BEAST is on the nose at 30FPE (AVE 920FPS) lights out at 100 yards, but not the pellet I want to shoot, there is something I don't like about the straight walled pellets, the redesigns just look so much more modern!

4) So it shoots great on the low power curve with the MONSTER, I was expecting circa 200 shots as with the .22HP shooting the 18g JSB.

5) Boy was I wrong, 360 SHOTS from 242 BAR to the low pressure warning at 105 BAR, THEN another 30 shots with the same velocity and I ran out of pellets (400 in a tin).

6) ALL 360 shots were within the 10 ring at 25 yards 6mm from start to end, despite my fast shooting.

ES over 360 was 9FPS with 300 of those being within 823-826 FPS ABSOLUTELY STAGGERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To shoot sub 20FPE for USA HFT would in theory require a very minor adjustment on the pulse length, imagine the possibilities!

I will post the pics and exact mean/median/mode etc. tomorrow once the effect of multiple cans of BUD have worn off.

Amazing, get onto AOA and order a .177 Redwolf Safari with the GCU2.0 board and new battery you won't regret it!

Mod edit: moved to PCP Airguns forum

Spray1Mark - The new .177 Red Wolf Safari still uses the same barrel as the original .177 Red Wolf? Do you know if that is true or not?

Tom H.

Hi Tom, if your .177 is the "standard" with 18" or 450mm barrel then no!

The .177 HP or Safari is a poly barrel same as the .22 HP, not a standard Walther rifling pattern as in the shorter barrels.

IME the standard barrel shoots better with the lower power and the 8.44g or 10.34g, the poly barrel really shines with high power and heavier pellets.

This gun WILL NOT shoot the 10.34g JSB at all, even on low power setting, it's just too fast for the pellet, I could of course change the programming to slow the 10.34 down on low power, then it would shoot.

Where I see this particular gun winning medals is if you reprogram the gun to shoot the 13g Redesigned Monster to 800FPS and stay just below the 20FPE rule you have in the USA, then you would really have an amazing advantage.

Anyways ladies and gents, another amazing night at the range, I set up at 25 yards and the gun was filled at 250 bar on the nose!

A tin of the Beast 16g and a 10 bull target and my chrono and I proceeded to shoot a string!

AMAZINGLY AGAIN! 138 SHOTS, YES 138 SHOTS at 920 FPS AVERAGE 30FPE and the finally displayed LOW POWER at 143 BAR!

138 SHOT group shot rapid over the chrono (yes I know its only 25 yards but still)!

How about that then? 138 FULL POWER shots 30FPE with an ES of 20FPS! pellets straight out the tin.

I suspect the Beast pellet is not quite as consistent as the Monsters I shot yesterday, they were amazing, I have a couple of different batches of the Beasts so will give some different ones a try over the chrono.

Again couldn't be happier with this gun, the Daystate literature shows 70 shots at 30FPE, just about half what it can actually do.

Next to stretch it out to 100 and decide whether to leave it alone or alter the programming slightly!

Hi Tom, what is the maximum range in your competition?

I could lower the pulse length on the low power curve on the gun to get 900-ish with the 10.34 as you say, then lower the power on the meduim curve to get 900-ish with the 13.43g

Then I think I can up the power on the high curve and shoot the Beast at 950 as I am told they will shoot at that velocity no problem.

Back to your situation, shooting the 13.43 Monster Redesign at 810 surely must be better for wind than the 10.34 in the low 900's? the Monster Redesigned is a serioulsy slick pellet compared to the 10.34 with the old straight wall design!

You may want to try the 24" poly barrel that is on the new HP fitted to your gun and see what happens, worth measuring the TP in your breech block and barrel and let me know, I can then let you know how it compares with mine.

Does the Safari give you any advatandage over a RW HP version in 22cal? Is this a potential new slug gun without the use of a tuner? If I'm getting 965fps with HP version with RD what can the Safari do that is better? I'm trying to figure out why I should purchase one or at least the excuse I will use when the Fun Govenor asks me why another PCP is in the house.

"Fun Governor" I love it!

Basically the .22 SAFARI will get you well over 1000FPS with the 25g RD Monsters, so then why not use the extra energy to step upto the 34g Beast and push that as hard as you can push the 25g Monsters now, but with a heavier pellet, it's a .25 cal basically but with the higher BC and SD of a .22.

Or as you say use the extra power for slugs on the HP setting and run the 25g Monsters on medium power to get what you are getting now with your current gun set on HP, but with the benefit of more shots in the string.

Perfect, I will start my planning now armed with this additional info for justification. Much appreciated.
