Squirrels are Out.

I managed to get away from the city this past weekend and I’m glad I did, this place is far but totally worth it.
The Edgun didn’t disappoint and the spot had plenty action, lots of squirrels and cottontails (too bad they are out of season) :(
here is a few pics a took, I also have some videos but I need to do some editing before I post them, its really a PIA$$ to record and shot at the same time, I’m gonna have to bring some else to take care of the cameras! Lol

most of the shots were from 40-85 yards
I spot this big female @ 73 yards sunbathing on top of a big rock

After a few more i got this juvenile @85 yards, the JBS put a hurt on it.

After a few hours of constant action it was time for lunch, nothing like a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich and cold coffee.
Chilling under a nice tree.

I was very surprised that I didn’t have to walk a lot to find the squirrels, as soon as I parked my truck I had to make sure my rifle was still zerod , I took a few shots and the squirrel alarm went off, I could hear them left and right, I told myself....this is gonna be a good day!

This is another one that I got @ 61 yards, it was a difficult shot, it was seating on a dead tree, covered by a few branches, I only could see its head and neck, the JSB put a smack on it, no twitching.

this one was big! It had some kinda skin disease, I didn’t bother to retrieve it, a few crows were flying around, im pretty sure they took care of it, free lunch! Lol

after almost 8 hours of shooting it started to get a bit windy so I decided to pack up and go home.
overall it was a great day, perfect weather.

Nice shooting.. we have eastern grey squirrels that are tree dwellers. They love sunflower seed, peanuts and pecans. The squirrels you hunt, I think are ground dwellers or burrow. Is there a way to put up some type of feeder so they come to one spot? Not sure if it is legal or they wouldn't climb a tree to feed on a feeder?
I've killed the crap out of them over a sunflower feeder. Sit in one spot and wait. Too much fun.

No need to feed them or put a feeder, this are ground squirrels, you can shoot them year around, the tree squirrels have a season here in California.

"JohnL57"Nice write up and pics-cool gun also! Are you in California? Looks a lot like that here in Santa Barbara County. I try and keep the numbers low on the property where I live
John
Hi John, i live in LA, this spot is near Kern county, a beautiful place this time of the year.
Yeah, what I call the '15 minutes of green' is almost over-next week you'll be picking stickers out of your socks any time you go off trail......
Got to get back to my weed wacker!
