Although most of the fall is taken up bow hunting for Whitetails, squirrel season starts this Thursday!! My oldest is ready to go. Hopefully it cools down, or we won’t be heading to the woods just yet. Here is a picture from last season after he got his first squirrel.

Anyone else ready for tree rat season?

Im ready down here in Louisiana. I love squirrel season. I dont deer hunt anymore….. .too much work in my opinion for a day off. I work at work. Thursday Im heading out to some local feedlots and chicken houses to seek permission to do some pesting. Would like to have some target rich environments like in Matt Dubber’s vids.

Starts the same day in Virginia as in Maryland.  Laborday is one of the two weekends I dislike most because we are a waterfront community and the drunks all come down to party hardy at “Da Riva”.  I think I will go hunting.

Ditto on California. We’ve warnings posted by Fish and Game about bubonic plague, from fleas. The ground squirrels corpses have been infested with fleas- be careful with them.

Follow up on the plague note:

    http://cdphgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/ImpactSummary/index.html?appid=358951fe9bd546d6954c3f1a1078a4bd

Interactive map from 2015. Right in my prime hunting area is one of the densest locations.
The opening map view shows points where plague-positive rodents were collected (1984 – 2013 Locations of Plague-positive Rodents) and the density of plague-positive rodent collections (1984 – 2013 Density of Plague-positive Rodents) for all collection years. Density is defined as the number of plague-positive rodents per square mile; the darker color, the more positive rodents in that location

The picture of my son is out in my dad’s shop. We had just returned from a squirrel hunt on the farm last season.

Like the bear mount really nice!!!
Dove starts Sept 1st here in Pa. Every year its the same. I have dozens of them at the feeders on the deck. I see they thin out once the shooting starts. I never tried them  I hear they are good eating?  I  think our small game season starts mid Oct.

Remember when we smiled like that!! great picture of the boy

Dove is good eatin!! All dark meat, but I like them in the crock pot or on the grill wrapped in bacon. Takes a decent number to make a meal though.

Not in the picture, but my dad has a beautiful 250lbs black bear mounted. The bear in the picture was small, but wounded so he killed it to keep it from suffering. It is a cool mount. All the grandkids used to be afraid to go into my dad’s shop because of the bears. Lol. His shop is also his race shop for his sprint car team. My oldest nephew used to run in the door to get past the bears until he reached all the racecar stuff then he would calm down. It was amusing to watch.

Does that mean that if we find flees on the trees squirrels then they might be no good for eating.

Really looking forward to squirrel season too but it needs to cool off quite a bit before I go out. Personally I like it best when most of the leaves are off the trees. Last year was my first year in quite awhile since I had gone squirrel hunting. I was using my Talon .22 cal. now I have my Wildcat in .25 cal. to go after them. Should be knocking them out of the trees with all that extra fpe and larger caliber. Bill

I guess we’re lucky down here in New Mexico with respect to squirrels—the season is never closed, and no bag limit! And doves? Eurasian doves and pigeons are open 365, as are coyote, skunk, prairie dogs, tahr, porcupine, and all kinds of rabbits.
