Squirrel Issues. Need super quiet but super accurate airgun.

Noob here. I have a squirrel problem and I live in a gated community here in north Atlanta with a gestapo like HOA.

I have a .22 Gamo breakbarrel with a centerpoint? scope, that will not hold zero. The quietness of the Gamo is good, but the accuracy is just not there. I've been to my local gun range multiple times to re-zero it at 25 yards.

I've been looking at the TX200, which seems to get good reviews. But the "medium" on the loudness scale is slightly holding me back. I've looked in PCP's also, and I don't mind throwing money at this problem. I was just wondering if there is a super quiet AND super accurate springer out there that the knowledge base here could recommend.

A Beeman R7 is pretty quiet.. I have one in .177 and if you hit the squirrels in the brain they will die fast..Nice smooth, accurate and quiet springer.

If you can put up a feeder about 18-20 yds and put in black oil sunflower seeds and start hammering their a$$.

If you wan to go with a PCP..The AirArms S200 in 177 with a Weihrauch moderator is REALLY quiet... Also, the FX Streamline in .177 on low power with a Huggett Moderator is quiet enough.. Other mfg's and people make moderators, I just choose these because of looks, price and performance.. I'm sure there are other PCP's too, but I can speak for these....

+1 on the aa s200. This tree rat taken @ 35 yds. Shot placement is critical. Jsb 8.4.

Since you're in a warmer climate I'll suggest a CO2 powered rifle. Mine are way quieter than my PCPs. 2260 is a .22 and mine is very accurate and with a TKO on it, very quiet. I also have Crosman Custom Shop .177 2400KT with a Rocker1 on it and it too is accurate and quiet. The 2400 has taken squirrels out to 25 yards and the 2260 out to 40 yards. The 2260 has been modified and produces 15 fpe, the 2400 is stock with 7 fpe. Also, there is no learning curve on the hold as with a break barrel.

Good luck in your search!

If you want an effective, very accurate, and very quiet Springer, I would highly recommend the LGV Master Pro in .177 or .22. It comes threaded 1/2UNF, just screw on a DonnyFL Koi and you are set. I have both cals, this is my .22 shooting 18gr JSBs 1/4” groups at 25 yards, no problem. The .177 in 12fpe using the Polymags is deadly. Both of mines are topped with SWFA scopes, holds zero very well.

What pellets are you using? What pellets have you tried.
I highly recommend H&N Filed Target Trophy 14.66 grn or any of the JSB line.
In my minimal experience, any of the pellets offered at your local sporting goods store are just junk.
I also suggest shooting off a good stable rest. For both sighting in and hunting.
Hunt over a bait pile so you can sight in your gun at that exact location. Ideally, you can sit in your house at a table and shoot outdoors.
Good luck

Oh , also. These barrels need to be broke in and leaded in.
My first air rifle is a Hatsan springer in .22 call. After shooting 675 Crosman Premieres. I was getting 1 1/8” groups at 22 yards. I then cleaned the barrel and switched to H&N Field Target Trophy’s. Now after a few hundred pellets I’m getting just over a half inch at 22 yards. And that is shooting off sand bags.
I just shot this group yesterday.

Are you accurate with Gamo other than POI shifts? Before you throw out the baby with the bath water you might want to try replacing the crappy scope. Believe it or not there are quite decent Centerpoint scopes. My Gamo's are rocking 3-9x40 PLT's which are absolutely beastly scopes and only $40 at Crosman.com.

Thanks for the suggestions people. I'm researching like crazy right now.

I'm using Crosman Premier Domed Pellets. I can't recall the grain #.

I'm hitting fairly tight groups when the scope is zeroed at 25 yards. But when I take it home, I can't hit the damn critters for crap. They just look up and taunt me with their fluffy tails. lol.

Pushing the envelope would be to use my supressed SBR in 300Blkout using subsonic ammo. The thought has crossed my mind a few times. Haha.

I found the following on Airguns of Arizona. Thoughts?

IMHO, the two best quality springers mentioned in this thread are the HW-97 and your own query about the TX. The TX - 200 is a fine choice. My standard length, .22, MK II model is probably the most quiet, modern springer among the dozens currently in the safes - in terms of report. It has several inches of empty shroud in front of the muzzle that contain the blast. The mechanics of the action and the impact on target are the loudest part of the shot cycle. It is also very easy to take down to lube the spring should you have any noise as it comes from the factory. Quiet, luxurious walnut and steel that can be passed down to the next generation.

You simply can’t go wrong with the HW97K. Awesome, accurate. I have a couple in .177. Frankly, prefer .177 for squirrels. However, the reason I recommend the LGV instead, is because it is just as accurate, but quieter, specially if you screw on the moderator. AoA will sell you a moderator for the HW97K, they work very well.

Ok so switch to H&N or JSB pellets like I stated above. My next question. Have you, from a bench. After your gun is zeroed at say your 25 yards. Have you then moved the target in to 15 yards and then out to 30ish yards ? You need to really see what it happing on paper before you can diagnose problems. Like gun, pellets or shooter. Do you have a range finder ? So you really know at what distance the squirrels are. Do you shoot off a rest at home when targeting squirrels?
You don’t need to reply to my questions here. They are just things you should look into before forking over more money for another gun.

It's kinda funny no one has mentioned that center point scope!!! Most don't last to long on a springer....could be your main problem and of course pellet choice. Every gun is different and you have to experiment with a few types of ammo.

On the other hand that 97 with a quality scope will do the job for years and a much I mean much better shooting experience than that through away gamo....lol

I'll second the Walther vote. I also have both an HW97 and 2 Walthers. The Walthers are as accurate and are quieter. I've taken many hundreds of squirrels and rabbits with a .177. And a .177 seems to have one major advantage in a "problem" shooting area such as the HOA restricted area noted by the OP-less chance of being "noted" or damaging something accidentally. I'd absolutely avoid .22 in that situation and even the .177 could carry potential legal risk.
