HI well I had time to go out hunting in afternoon for squirrels . I took my Taipan out , I tuned this for slugs and it is deadly accurate , I never hunted squirrels with slugs , I always use my leshiy or other low powered gun with JSB . I use slugs for bigger game .
Well with fall coming leaves on trees falling and the squirrels are gathering nuts. This time of year and next month is great time to do long range shooting as you can see further with the leaves down .
So I got 4 squirrels with 5 shots , all were 50 to 120 yards , all head shots , all were very hi up in trees like over 100 feet. I was using my Trijicon scope 1x8 on like 4x so it is a bit difficult to get head shots at these distances for me .which is why I did miss 1 shot and one squirrel I hit a bit low on head almost jaw area , NOW FOR RESULTS
Ok well first off I could not find 3 of the squirrels so I went to get reinforcements meaning Titus and wife and my LTO tracker 2 thermal HD .
With in seconds of scanning ground I found all squirrels , The LTO tracker 2 is great for this , I love it .
OK now for the meat of this 3 head shots were spot on and one threw top of jaw a bit higher , I skinned all squirrels and to my surprise , NO damage to any squirrel ,just like I had drilled a hole threw them , I was shocked , I believe the jaw shot the concussion of the 52fpe slug killed him in his tracks , where as a pellet he would of gotten away . But I noticed every shot a solid THUMP AND IT FELL RITE AFTER THE HIT ,
I live in area where you have to use ,22 cal pellet guns only , so I have gotten alot of squirrels with every type of .22 caliber ammo made . I found that a pellet does more damage then the MP slug , however the MP slug they fell as soon as the thud of it hit , where as , with a pellet most times they hang on to tree for up to 30 seconds before falling , I did not do body shots as we eat them here .
So which is better ? I do not know this is first time using a slug for these for squirreling LOU
