Springer stored which hasn't been shot in over a decade ???

I was speaking to someone who owns a German RWS break barrel who hadn't oiled nor shot it in over 10 years.

It has some surface rust on the outside but what if the spring and piston wall on the inside is rusted as well as the rifeling?

Is it OK to just try to shoot it or does it need total disassembly and rebuild? It has yet to be shot again after10 years time.

Not trying to restore it since it is no longer in pristine condition, just asking about functionality.

It was never lubricated anywhere since it was purchased new over 10 years ago.

Shoot it several times, as is and listen how it sounds. Then test velocity over a chronograph, if available, and see if up to spec. Watch for any plastic materials coming out of the muzzle while firing. If it has only been about ten years since purchase chances are it's fine.

I don't have the gun to do the testing nor live nearby to get access to it.

I had offered to post a question about what to do and appreciate any answers.

Its an RWS model 34. Don't think lifetime warranty covers rust and unsure

since Umarex took over how they would take care of it anyway.

Hold the trigger in and break the barrel fully back and forth a few times to make sure the piston is free to move ok. I would then run a few patches through the barrel til they come out clean and then test fire it. Don't fire it without a pellet as that can damage things.

If you are planning to keep the gun and use it, then don’t shoot it. Instead strip it down, clean then relube the internals. You may need to replace the piston seal and spring if both are worn. There are plenty of YouTube videos on the net to show you how to complete the job.

You risk damage to the gun if you don’t first check the internals.
