Springer and break barrel tuning and maintenance

If it's brand new you may not want to open it up yourself as that will void the warranty. Many will say clean the bore when new and then not again till or if accuracy falls off. Otherwise just use it and let the parts break in normally. I have put a tiny amount of moly or tar on the spring through the cocking slot if little or none were present or if there was a some twang.

I own 2 HW97s in .177 purchased new. After a thorough barrel cleaning I shot approx 1/2 tin thru each one to each one to ensure proper function and expected accuracy I pulled the stocks and sent them to Motorhead for a level-1 tune. You hear the word “transformation” used a lot by people who have had their guns tuned by him, myself included. If you tell him what you intend to use the gun for and what level of performance you expect, that is what you will get. The shot cycle will be so much smoother and refined. My guns are now much more pleasurable to shoot for extended periods. His transformation is worth the price. Uj

I don't take apart a new air rifle when I first get it. I do check all the screws to make sure they are tight. I look down the barrel and check for obstructions. After you are done shooting the new gun always check the screws again. If they loosen up apply a small amount of blue loctite to them.

I normally clean the bore after about every 500 shots. I use Simple Green cleaner in the bore only with patches (never a wire brush) and then apply a very light coat of Pelgun oil.
