Speed Silhouette competition

Im investigating the logistics of being successful in such an event, and would be using the EBR rules as an example. Aside from being successful behind the trigger, what else? For example, there are 16 targets so did the leaders only shoot high capacity magazines and not have to reload? Ive not research all, but seems the FX Impact was highly utilized and wondered if the top place finishers (especially thise sub one minute) were able to accomplish this with out reloading the magazine?

What calibers were most used/successful? Again, if using the FX Impact .22, you get two misses before requiring a reload. Also related to that, what is the fpe required to be succesful? For example, Im sure higher fpe with rule limits would be more forgiving, possiblly larger caliber, however you now have reduced poops per mag. In the case of the Impact .25, one miss requires loading an additional mag.

Again, I realize none of this negates the shooter's ability, however of there is an advantage to not having to reload it wpuld make sense the higher capacity mag would win out. Are there any other high capacity rifles in .22 or .25? Could a higher powered .177 do the trick? Just a fascinating event!

I love this event! It's by far the most fun to watch and participate in! :)
There are 3 classes - Sportsmans, Pro, and the new Unlimited class. I have been trying to get them to add a springer class but have not heard anything on that. What a chaotic and fun class that would be to watch! LOL! :D
The rules of each class can be found on the Extremem benchrest site. The Unlimited is the ONLY class in which magazines can be pre loaded as well as rifles loaded and ready to shoot. It's really fun to hear 20 rifles send that first shot when "Fire!" is called out. In all other classes, the rifles must be clear and the pellets must not be staged in any way whatsoever.
When you really dissect the different styles of shooting this event, you find that each one has it's own unique pro's and con's. Some of which are not apparent until you try them yourself. ;)
EBR might claim the 75/100 yd as the main event but Speed Silo is definitely the main attraction for me.
Happy Shooting

Our club in Pocatello, Idaho holds these speed silo matches (along with a number of other timed and speed events) on the fourth Thursday evening of every month once things thaw and daylight permits. In addition to airguns, we shoot the games with .22 rimfire. However, to prevent target damage, we exclude the use of .22 magnum and hyper velocity ammo (CCI mini-mags, vipers, etc.)

Just about everything in the speed shoot is opposite from what you would do in a benchrest match. I think that what makes it so much fun.

A 19 FPE .177 with 10 gr pellets will knock down the rams, but those pellets are too small for my fumble fingers. I have single loaded a .25 Marauder, and while the pellets are easier to handle, the cut out for the magazine is about the minimum width for quick loading. The .22 Marauder magazine cut out is too small for me for single loading, but that is me.

At the 2013 there was a springer class. Only two people entered. They didn’t have to shoot the rams, so they had 12 targets to knock over. They shot from adjoining benches. One used a FWB 124 and the other a R-1. I think the winning time was very close to the winning PCP time.

At ERB each shooter gets three runs. You can use use the first run to check your sights and the wind. After that you ride hell for leather and devil take the hindmost.
