Souping up the 25 Kratos 52 FPE

My 25 Kratos was slinging Kings in the 880-900 FPS range for several magazines.

yesterday I disassembled the rifle for a power tune.

First job was to slug the barrel and choke, I did and got .2535-.254 for the barrel midway, and .251 at a abrupt choke. I used a steel solid 25 caliber rod with bearing handle, a 25 caliber jag and gave it 35 to 50b strokes with several patches saturated with #7 rubbing compound, and finished with 100 strokes of Flintz.

Then I ported the valve and barrel to a. Conservative .187.

I used a Swiss file to open the adjustable tp valve to .167 and the next day opened the reciever raceway to .156, which is about the maximum as a larger bit will not enter the barrel retaining screw hole with out drilling and tapping to a larger screw.

Then I took off 3 coils from the falve return spring.

The result is a string that starts at 941fps, climbs to 950 during the 2nd and 3rd magazine and tops out at 966 FPS halfway through the 3rd nagazine of Kings.

Not a huge powerhouse, but at 52-53 FPE, not a lot of dust on it either.

Interesting note, I have been testing the MP Molds 48 grain bullet. With a choked barrel it is a chore to get it shooting. By sizing the slug to .251 and loading it backwards in the lead, accuracy at the 11 yard range I am chained to these days, I can shoot 1/2 inch groups, any bullets below .251 diameter are flyers and nose first groups look like I shot the target with # 4 buckshot. The velocity is 682 FPS, maybe close to 700 now, and it is intended to be a replacement from hard to find 25 caliber pellets. Backwards it still gets 10 inches of penetration in flesh from a now boat tail wad cutter.
