Sorting Pellets for precision

Many thanks for the excellent videos, your effort is greatly appreciated, and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, your moving pictures are priceless!!!

I have pondered this rotational stability concept as a result of witnessing flight instability, that I initially felt was the barrel scoring the pellets unevenly, your illustration has helped me form a new idea. Where that idea goes is anyone guess, but I like new ideas nonetheless.

Yes I can.
It is not the way to sort pellets.
But it is a good way to show the shape defects.

As I said, I don't sort by shape defects.

The problem is.

If a pellet has shape defects, experience has shown that the whole can or the whole lot has this defect. Many shooters do an ammunition test first. Experience shows that good ammunition does not have this shape shift, or only very little.

(I am a match shooter and use flat head pellets. I first buy several loose pellets in test tubes. Then I look for any shape shifts. Then, to be sure, a few more test shots. Then I order the lot, or I wait a little and later order test tubes again I get the best pellets without a long journey).



But even the best pellets can still have small defects.

I've already shown the slightly eccentric Hollow. Each pellet in the can can be slightly different.

Pellets can also have an eccentric head. This is difficult to see with round head pellets. That's why I'm going to show you an example of a flat head pellet.



The dark ring is the edge of the head.









And here again an example with a form offset.

The plate on the head is good.

The head ring wobbles.

The cones are shifted.

I am always looking at the pulsating bright lights.

who can we contact to purchase the test tubes and if found good purchase bulk of same ?

and shipped to the USA ?

Hello, I apologise for my late reply.
I've done a little research. For the small trader, it is not expedient to ship test tubes and heavy packages to the USA. Shipping costs, customs papers and long warehousing are too costly. It would be better to find a general importer of pellets in the States who can offer this service.

Your analysis makes perfect sense as to why we always seem to get an occasional "flyer" for absolutely no good reason!! I sort and weight my pellets and while definitely making my accuracy much more consistent I still get that shot that you have no idea why it went there!! Great addition to this thread NoLimits!! Something else for me to test and work on!! Thank you J.L.
