Some stupidly small groups at 190 yards w/177

Not to take anything away from the shooter, but to illustrate what is required to SOMETIMES do this with any airgun.

lol, I appreciate that comment.

Well, shooting the actual MOA Groups is very very difficult I will agree. I shoot lots of groups in the wind where four out of five, or three out of five are all right on top of each other. Once you get past about 150 getting every pellet into one group, becomes challenging.

Keep in mind I also shot quite a few groups this summer at 240 yards out in a field.

I’ve shared the fact that I’m shooting on a range in the woods for quite a while because I want people to have full transparency. It certainly does make a difference. Once the leaves are off the trees, the advantages dampens considerably.

I had not noted your past description of shooting conditions but I commend both your honesty and your shooting.

From the other side of the pond thank you. Big advantage with 30 foot pounds and slugs. They holdup out to 240. It’s crazy.

i’ve also shot the 12 foot pound 177 out to 160 with pellets. Believe it or not it was a FWB 10 m rifle which had been bumped by Alan Zasadny. A junior model 70. It was so accurate at 100 yards, I could shoot five shot MOE groups one after the other in decent conditions. Once in a while half MOE at 12 pounds. I shot it at rifle range. So I had earmuffs on, I was in my own world.

All of a sudden I realized it was quiet and had been for a while. These guys have been watching my groups from 100 yards through their scopes. I’m not sure for how long. They were blown away. Because the piellet holes just appear there. No sound. This was 10 years ago. They had high end swat type stuff, And could shoot.

It’s amazing what you can do a 12 foot pounds. It’s also extremely difficult. This rifle liked the 7.9 JSB best. I shot chipmunks with it at 130 yards.

Amazing stuff Mike, There's just something about this thats hooked me deep. I have some slugs inbound designed for sub 12...really looking forwards to giving them a run! Yeah 30 foot pounds makes all the difference...You can fling a house with the right trajectory and velocity! Ha ha...I stacked about 12 shots + in an inch at 100 a few nights back, It was so cool I wanted to stay out all night! ..Yeah I've started filming as this is hard for peeps to believe...Blowing my mind as I do and have shot many things in my days...Plus it's great data collecting. When I have had a long day at the shop and forget to record my tunes on the backs of the cards....Annoys the crap out of me..Always when the holes are super clean. I did a real nice one out at 160 and the impact from the 150 were not as nice as the 160, But like a busy fool I never put the tune on the back of the cards... I've been down the drop and flight time road for a while...My 100 is the around same as A Rem 700 168 grain out at 335 yards or very close! Cool stuff! Yeah mate massively difficult but that's the challenge right! and when you start to put stats to it ...Like my 215 just is a 775 yard rem shot! So when you lay it out flat like that...Like you say very quite and 650 shots per fill...What's to hate! lol.. Thanks Mike, Yeah very cool what was the impact like out at 130?

@carbincreative: what you do is definitely extremely difficult. Can’t wait to see your videos!!!

Thanks qball, Yeah super difficult and time consuming but a great itch! (You know that inch Mike!)Ha ha https://youtu.be/wc1MdWReWlE This was 105 yard super group...About 12 in an inch group The 215 the lighting is poor so I'm trying to sort that out in FCP if I can. But now I have my dope I can set up a better vid capture. Crazy stuff 1.30s flight time....Almost time for a brew between shots! ha ha

Where did you post that group you shot last night, at like 200 yards and you could only see four of the shots? That was a real group. It was actually a really good group. Can you post a picture of that here? I couldn’t find it.

How many groups did you try to shoot that far out

mike

Hi Mike I posted on how far can this .177 go I think! Been a bit like that! Ha ha. This one, There are two shots next to each other...I have gone thur the vid stuff...Really pants footage mate, but getting on to two 11.5" wide cardboard boards was super tough at night no wind fags! Ha ha...Like a good challenge me! poop tone of footage to sort out so just did the first bit! https://youtu.be/VGsnc9s5ACk

That is some crazy stuff. It’s hard enough with a fairly powerful Airgun.

mike

Yeah man, and there is still some to go! That was on a mid tune really, This string I shot just after, See from the time I was having lots of fun! Lol Looking forwards to a re-shoot on the large react targets and get some better footage. That itch just got bigger! Lol

Thanks again Mike, A man that know's what's involved! I re-shot the 215 yesterday..well 214 but close enough! I say if you can't do it more than twice it's not a thing right! Alas I lost my little shooting buddy to a Hawk so pulled more shots than I would have liked...Your mind must be clear and in that space as you know from your super group shoot!

These are my group shots @ 214 on the home made react boards...Really cool and working well as they have tightened right up now I can see! Lol the vid is good too!

First off, that’s crazy. I tried the same thing with a 30 foot pounds, 22 caliber Rapid about 10 years ago. You are getting better consistency than I was by far. I only had two successful shooting sessions. The rest look like I was shooting a shotgun at 50 yards.

it was hard to follow the shots because you were on the left side of the target, and your camera and lighting was more on the right side of the target. I would suggest if you ever try this again, which I think is cool so I hope you do, suggest start with a completely clean slate then maybe put four target dots on it so there’s lots of room around each one, and it will be much easier for us to see what’s happening. For you looking through the scope I’m sure it’s absolute clarity.

It’s awesome that you’re hitting the cardboard let alone shooting groups. Were these slugs or pellets.?

mike

THAT is amazing skills @carboncreative, I would not even attempt that. I’ll take my cheating little slugs out to the range. You are really upping the ante on this long range game!!! Hahahaha

Edit: did some calculations and I’ll be attempting 150 yards with 16FPE(12.5 grain @760FPS) BUT with slugs. It’s almost impossible to get windless days around here…..that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

Mind bending crazy Mike, I keep telling myself when I pull a shot by a couple of inches...Always looks worse in the glass...Yeah real clear and clean from my point of view..Oh you bet ya I'm keeping on this...Just keeps opening up this rabbit hole into a warren! I was on it again tonight...Funny as mate, I thought I was pulling shots..But after a session doing some 100 yard groups with 7.5 grain..A thing in my head at the mo... mass verses heat loss and gains...Another bloody rabbit hole! Ha ha. I was shooting like a bag of cats with one trigger earlier...WTF crazy mad...I thought as we do...No no my gun hates them!!!....No, I had moved the hide and absent minded never looked at the grass situation out front...Funny as...I mashed the night viz on to see...Bong left wizz right! Took some cool ATN footage to show you guys the lob! plus the grass mishap! Ha ha Yeah I really do need to sort the other target set up out...The 100 I think is cool? That has a light each side...I know, Like a excited fool I keep standing or putting my hands in the way of what I'm showing! ha ha...Pellets buddy, Airarms 8.4...I know 11.5'" wide with a gap in the middle...I think I called it what it was on the vid! ha ha Thank you bro, Big effort but well worth it..

Thanks bro good of you to say...Nice, Go on give it go...Keep stepping out bro! Super satisfying! The walking's not! Lol...I'm deep in the science of it..For many years people say pellets destabilise when you push them out... I'm seeing cleaner impacts as I go out! Very interesting stuff! Loving Mike is doing the other side of the coin! I have just got some slugs in from pro hunter that are designed for the sub club...Did a 68 yard group...Not too bad..They indexed super easy..A bit too but I have 10.5 13 and 15 grain to try! I said to Mike I shot some cool and funny footage for you guys! Thanks again qball.

I just want to be able to watch them hit. It would be really cool. It’s like being inside the scope. Once in a while it seemed like I heard Pellets hitting the target, was that correct?

awesome stuff…I wonder what it would do a little closer in? Based on what I am seeing, you could shock the world at 175.

mike

Was that the first shoot with just brown cardboard?..... Yeah and a few never made it to the party! Lol....Have you seen the new react boards? I'm loving it Mike, Really something quite interesting going on! Loving your doing the other side of the coin too! Have you found more range yet?

I will buzz you a set up pick!
