Some recent pesting... .30 and .22

Hi all, thought I would share a few recent hits, and a miss or 2, from recent exploits: All taken with the ATN in 1080p, in which for some reason my reticle doesn't show...

1st up is .22 My Edgun R5M, shooting the hybrid slugs at 920 fps. 1st shot at 50 yrds, The aim point was the eye, but the slug impacted just ventral and this poor chap got a nose job... tracked him and got a great follow up at 55 yrds, which entered just above the shoulder and gave him a craniotomy.

2nd up is R5M again, hybrid slug at 50 yrds enters this chaps head just above the eye, perfect placement. Lights out. (pretty cool in slow mo) I put a couple unnecessary follow up body shots so I could check the effects of the slugs: unfortunately I could not find the slugs after. Lets just say the damage internally, especially on that second shot, was pretty remarkable.

3rd up is the Uragan .30, lobbing the 50gr JSBs at 840 fps. I was curious to see what the pellets would do with body shots. 50 yrds. This one surprised me a good bit, the shot went low and smacked this little bugger right in the left humerus below the shoulder. It was nevertheless quite effective, passing through both lungs and grazing the heart. This little critter got about 15 yards before expiring.

4th up is the Uragan again, 50 gr pellet. 55 yrd shot, got him burying peanuts. This shot was a bit perplexing, pellet hit right in the base of the neck, just anterior to the shoulder. Not ideal, but the .30 gives you some leeway. Poor critter made it about 5 yards and expired. After hunting with pellets, I think I am going to go back to the NSA 50 gr slugs in the Uragan, they make a heck of a lot louder hit and these critters pretty much drop right there.

Not trying to be critical. I'm a hunter too, and just explaining why I didn't join in on the conversation.

Some of your verbiage (like nose job and craniotomy) was a bit off-putting to me. Also was a bit put-off by the additional body shots for testing after the animal had expired. I do similar testing (head shots or vitals shots) with different ammo because I think it's important for us hunters to understand the capabilities of our gear and their effect, but I do it as dedicated kill shots, not testing after the kill.

Again, not criticizing, and not saying you did anything wrong because you didn't. Just explaining why I chose to not join in here.

How do you like the ATN? Do you move it from airgun to airgun?

Funny your last shot looks exactly like the reaction I got from a .177 Predator Polymag going 915 fps placed similarly. Big difference was the mine was at only 10 yards. 😁

It isn't the terminology for me, more of the nonchalance with respect to wounding.

Having said that, I'm all for taking test shots in a dead critter to understand the efficacy of ammo. I don't think that is disrespectful. It is better for understanding than shooting into clay.

Wow. Rough crowd 😕

Eh, don't sweat it. Very often, I just don't have anything to say.

I also do shots on critters I've already killed just for learning. I'll pull out an entirely different rifle just to see what happens because I've not gotten a chance to use that rifle/ammo on a particular critter in a particular way at a particular range- you get the idea. I'd rather know before I go. It may be gruesome but its not unethical.

One time, I found a road killed turkey. I really wanted to take that head home and try some skull shots. I've never hunted turkey before and that would have been a great learning experience for me. But the sun was setting as it was and some critter drug off that bird by morning.
