Some EdGun / Huma pistol tuning.

I purchased a used EdGun Veles in late 2019. I've fallen in love with the pistol. The Veles is simplicity in engineering: decent single stage trigger mated to a 1911 style hammer/spring setup (although all hidden inside the frame), hammer hits valve, air pushes pellet. The loading mechanism is the whole top back of the block. Without the scope this pistol is so lightweight it's nuts - maybe 2 lbs.

Man this pistol shoots so smoothly and pushing 20 fpe the recoil is this beautiful soft push back into your palm. It warranted spending the cash for a Burris 2-7 handgun scope.

But as I got I noticed a lot of variance in POI. When I chrono'd a 20 shot string (250bar - ~130bar) I had an ES of 40-50fps using weighed and sorted 16gr JSB pellets. Something had to be off, and being such a simple gun the only remaining factor was the regulator. I believe the Veles uses some of Ed's earliest regs which may have been in need of improvement. Add to that age and possibly weakening Bellville washers - I figured let's see if Huma sells a reg for the Veles. Maybe I'll get some more consistency and a few more shots per fill.

Well after waiting about a week or so for int'l mail I received my reg from Huma. Now like I said, the Veles is one of Ed's early designs and everything is very simple. There's no bleed screw so I went searching for instructions on how to empty the air tube. https://youtu.be/668un19N3ZU?t=779 I laughed when I watched Ed himself show how to empty the air, but hey it works.

Now reg is in place and confirmed with a Huma tester at 130bar. I have the hammer spring set for ~700fps with JSB 16gr. This is the shot string I recorded after getting the hammer spring setting finished. Went from 20 shots per fill to ~35 on reg.

Can't be more pleased than seeing consistency like this. So thank you to Huma for an awesome product. And thank you to Ed for making an amazing pistol. I do wish you had continued to improve on the design but it's damn near perfect as is. Would be great to meet you and go shooting together someday.

Anyways - if anyone kept reading this far, thank you for letting me share some fun I've enjoyed recently.

I actually don't have that scope any longer. But I do have two Leupold handgun scope, the 4x and the 2.5-8x. Both are fixed parallax and I have no issues at all. It did take a while to get used to having a perfect lineup with your eye to see through them, but that became natural over time.

I currently have the Burris 3-12 on the Veles 22 and it has an adjustable parallax. Very easy to use until you get up to about 10x and then it's really hard to keep the sight picture.
