Slugs for Airguns at NRL-22 matches

and in BenchRest comps neither! guess to make it more fair to all (airgunners) like using double bottles... donno but slugs should be permitted!

The PB boys probably have to get past the facts of how good PCP's are so keeping them in pellet mode soothes their discomfort. Start easy and get them to admit two PCP classes one with pellets and one with slugs. Soon they will think it is their own idea to simplify and just put slug guns in with the 22PB's. Strange how easy it is when it's their idea and they can brag about how smart they are. My .02$ 

Right. It would be like saying you can’t use Eley or other match ammo. I’ve seen too many competitions ruined by too many rules. I’ve also seen some cheating . 

A happy medium is about impossible to achieve especially if money is involved .

I think the airgun division is experimental, no?? I wonder if the NRL will discontinue it if there isn't much attendance?

You'd have the pellet shooters crying that slugs are allowed. Yep, then there would have to be two classes, one allowing pellets, and one for slugs.

You can always shoot slugs for the fun of it and not compete in any division, the score won't count officially but it'd be neat to try against the rimfires. 

Judging by the slight attendance in our NRL22 threads here on AGN there might be 5 guys competing across the whole country???

Yeah, we had a NRL22 match local to me but the MD stopped doing them, rats!

The next closest I have to drive an hour and 15 minutes which isn't too bad. I've been wanting to go to it for the last 4 months but something else seems to be happening on that weekend.

Should be able to go this month and I'm going to ask the MD if I can shoot both rimfire and PCP.

I shoot in 3 different NRL events across the state. I have yet to see a single air rifle (other than my own, which I only used once, then switched to 22 rimfire afterwards).

Unless numbers pick up, I'm not sure they'll continue to carry and support the air class.

But yes, a person who shoots every event all by themselves could easily use slugs and I doubt any of the rimfire shooters would ever care, if they even knew the difference.

No, there doesn't seem to be much of a following for AG's in NRL22. 

I'll keep playing with my FX Impact in stages inside 100Y after the match I go to which has half the stages out to 208Y. 

As long as I could equal or outgroup my Anschutz 22rf, along with getting .2+BC slug going 1000fps, I'd be all in using a PCP against the rimfires and maybe eventually win a match. Now that would be COOOOOOL!

2021 NRL22 rules: .30 cal pellet only, .25 cal and under can use pellets or slugs. If it works out in the future, a goal is to tune a .22 - .25 cal for slugs. Specific for use in NRL22 Matches. The BC for slugs should be a big advantage over pellets. Do you have any recommendations?

From a standpoint of winning in events this year, meaning the NRL22 events at RMAC and EBR, the FX Impact in 22 cal seems to be the ticket. I'm guessing they are shooting heavy slugs fast but I don't know which ones they use.

I shoot the JSB 25g Knock Outs at around 940 FPS on Medium Power on my .22 Safari HP. It does real well at 50 yards with this slug. I have shot some decent low to high 240 N50 targets with the Safari, low to mid 240's with my RAW HM1000x .22 HP. But, as you might guess the Anschutz always takes home the prize at 50 yards with RWS 50 40G ( and does have a tuner ).

Thanks for the input. I have been shooting a V22 in NRL22 matches but am trying to nail down an air rifle rig that will come close to the rimfire base class guns. If the build can exceed the performance of the base class rifles, that would be a big plus. Once you transition into the Anschutz, RimX and Vudoo types in rimfire, those can be hole in hole shooters at 50 yds. Even the Tikka T1X and Bergara types perform very well in the rimfire class. Nice cards, thanks for the reference.

Impact 

In my opinion, both the Daystate Safari .22 HP and the RAW HM1000x .22 HP can give the RF’s a run for the money for NRL22. Not as good, but pretty solid for air rifles. I shot lots of N50 cards with both air rifles and my .22 RFs always shoot a bit better. 

In some recent NRL22 matches posted this year, I have seen some pretty good cards shot with the Thomas and the RAW .22 calbers. Both have done very well vs. some RF’s.

But, a custom RF with a Tuner is hard to beat. 

Slowly, getting my Red Wolf 22HP up for NRL22. If slugs are allowed, great. If not, it’s trigger time for the NRL stages and then will switch to my CZ455 for the shots past 100y. That thing is a hammer.

2022 NRL22 rules are the same.

I shoot NLR22, I would have to shoot my FX in place of my Tikka T1x, most of the time where I live it's windy so tough shooting with a 22lr let alone an air rifle.
That being said I'd love to shoot the game on a reduced range specifically set up for small caliber airguns against other airguners.
