Slings for heavy wood big bore rifles?

I think you already seen my post elsewhere. With the weight of the AEA .45, I don’t trust a single sling mount. My Wingshot is super light. But the other day I was rabbit hunting with it and the Uncle Mikes stud broke. The barrel hit the ground. Didn’t hurt it. But it did get me to thinking. I added a pic rail with double screws to hold the front sling mount to the stock. It worked great. So I doubled up on the Challenger. Might not look cool. But it’s all about function. I added a pic rail up front and used 2 sling studs with backing nuts for the mounting screw/ bolts. Then I added a second screw- in stud in the rear. I am more concerned with the leather sling giving way than I am about the mounts now. Plus I can add a bipod if I wanted to.

If you do add a screw stud in the buttplate end of the stock, take the time to locate the bottom buttpad screw. I guarantee you will drill into it. The rubber pad pealed off mine, so I could see where the screw in the white plastic was located. I pulled the screw out and cut about 1/2” off the end. This way I could mount the sling stud closer to the butt and not interfere with the stock to receiver bolt hole.

This is the stud that broke holding a 4 pound Wingshot. And this was my fix.

well i had a sling from a hatsan carnivor and it uses a beltlike latch on both ends so it wraps around the stock and barrel/air tube pretty well. i am using it on my .357 challenger standard big bore. smiles i just love this rifle dont you? i put a utg360bipod on after mounting a pick rail under the stock(there is a pick rail kit on ebay that is cheap has several sized rails and screws just drill smaller hole and screw the screws into the wood holding the pick rail and thus the bipod.)
this makes the rifle easy to balance once you are at your hunting location.also emperor moderator which ive modified adding rubber between the metal mesh and outer shell and black rubberized sports bandage wraps around the air tube and between the wood stock and metal of air tube . i hope this ends the ping, if it does not i will get sound dampening liquid rubber and dip the air tank into strategically.ive also built a backstop with rubber mulch that works great.

I've found the cotton weave M-1 Garand type sling to be perfect for my use
There is even one on my FX Independence weighing in at 9lbs 1oz with scope
And here is the video that convinced me to try them

If you are curious here are product links

I find the eBay one more supple, which I prefer
But both are well made

Hope this helps
