Slap vs. Ping?

Hello all, I am trying to figure out which PCPs have a "ping" vs. a "slap".

For example, some "slappers" I know of are: MFRs / Edguns / Sumatras. Some "pingers" I know of are the AA S410, most Daystates, and the old Careers.

Asking because to me, pinging is inherently significantly quieter than slapping, and even most hammer slaps are too loud for my situation.

Any input much appreciated!

Most PCP's that ping are unregulated, and the noise is due to air movement inside the air tube through a large orifice, many manufactures use 'de-pingers' which essentially restrict the air flow as well as dampen the noise transfer from inside the tube to your ear while air moves, regulators are basically depingers themselves.

Slap is generally from the hammer face/striker face making contact with the valves pin / valve stem end which is commonly metal to metal contact, or high density plastic to metal contact which both make quite a racket...I personally have a deep pocket filled with compressed leather in my hammers striker face, which extremely dampens the slap when contact is made upon firing the rifle.

If your mfr is too loud then it is not set up correctly. I have 3 and they are insanely quiet. All of mine, the block noise and muzzle report is much quieter that the impact of the pellet

Now that's a nice piece of information. Thanks.

I just built a gun up into a real pinger. Needs to be tuned still.

Only shot the first 5 rounds out of it last night and thought that ping has to go.

Describes my situation most likely - "Light hammer with a heavy spring, especially at higher reg pressures will ping."
