Graphic!!!Skunk number 4, very little spray.

Another heart shot, it did a small spray and got about 20 feet. There’s no smell at the skunk. It took the hit and raised it’s tail then it wobbled about 20 feet and piled up. I’ll know how bad the stink is when it gets light enough to bag it up, hopefully I’ll be nicely surprised lol. Possibly do an autopsy to see the results if it doesn’t stink.

Mr. davelarson,

Every spring we have skunk problems, I try to bait them away from the house with sardines and tuna. I have only got a 50/50 average on a no spray elimination. One time the head shot will work perfectly and the next time not so much, vitals shot, same dismal result. The only thing that has worked better was trapping them in a PVC pipe trap, where they don't spray, but you still need to dispatch them because this type of trap does not harm them.

If I get the female, usually no more nightly visits from the males. I can get up to six males to one female. How come an animal so beautiful can smell so BAD. They like to burrow under sheds and out buildings to have their young and I go through this every year, guess its a trade off for living in the woods.

Continued good luck on your skunk pesting, stay healthy and safe,

Thanks guys. This one was a female. No smell after the one puff, and no smell on the body. I cut it open to see the result of the shot. Hopefully it doesn’t gross anyone out, it’s just very interesting to see exactly what the shot did. I was too high for the heart but the angle of the skunk made the pellet go up into the neck with no exit point. So out of four skunks two have sprayed, but not too much. I’m going to always use this shot on skunks. Arrowhead is that a rainbow trout in your profile picture? We call em footballs when they look like that lol. Nice fish.

Mr. davelarson,

No gross out here, very interesting pellet path. So the shot went up into the spine and maybe severed it. Glad you got the female, things may settle down for a while.

Yes, my personal best rainbow. I was trolling in Bass Lake, just south of Yosemite Park near where we live. I was fishing by my self that day, had my hands full, it was windy, tough to steer and net, the fish jumped out of the net 2 times before it finally got exhausted from laughing at me then let me net it. My wife catches more and larger fish than me, I guess to keep me humble.

Thanks for the very good post on your skunk adventures, keep them coming, as I am sure I will learn some good tips.
