Since when has buying an air gun become like buying a car?

Who is the vendor, I'll shop elsewhere.

As for package deals, other dealers don't require package deals, you just have to wait a couple months. If you buy the package because you are impatient, I can't help that.

Please don't feed vendors that require stuff like that and do report them in the vendor section here. FX and other manufacturers watch that section. It does have impact. If not here, report directly to FX. I doubt they are happy with the package deal requirements. Perhaps they don't have any rules around package requirements so dealer has a loophole that needs to be closed. Do let FX know who it is. If FX is OK with the package requirement, I'd be very disappointed.

I think the OP lives in SoCal, so isn’t very hard to figure out who is the dealer. Talking about mark-ups and package deals, I wanted to buy a new truck (Tacoma) almost 4K for tinted windows, this is getting ridiculous!!! I’ll keep my second gen!!!

Difficult to build guns when some parts are stuck in Hong Kong fyi

Understood, and generally accepted.

But the original post is not about a gun which is yet to be built. This gun is in stock at the store where the guy has an outstanding pre-order. But it will be sold to someone who hasn't pre-ordered, if they accept it dolled up with accessories at a much higher 'package' price. And with much more profit to the dealer than if they just sold the gun alone.

Goes to the point I've made in the past that if you want to make money in the airgun business, don't build or sell the guns, sell the accessories. Much higher mark-up on those.

Still unethical business practices in my view.

All I have to say is there are two vendors that do that. One out west and one back east, who I would say was the originator of these package type deals.

They advertise as the fx guns as available, but only in the package deals which I thought was weird. I’m not in the market for any new fx gun but in thinking for the others that are, I thought that was BS, because the email notification says that certain FX guns were available. I click on it, I go to the M3 it shows NA. Same with maverick and wildcat Mk3. So now I’m wondering why I got this email notice?

well, I click on the guys home page and there they are- the M3’s and wildcats, all clad up with ST parts, bipods, scopes, etc, for around $3200-$3500 package price.

I see Prophets and Crickets all suited up, also. Same guy sells fx labeled bottles higher than anyone else.

So, I think the out west guy noticed that and copied the idea.

But hey, check it out- it’s really no different than the guy that’s selling his mk2 impact that we all know has a current market value of $1500-$1800, but he sells it with scope, eBay bipod, maybe a set of fx no limit rings, says it has Huma this, Huma that in parts, or Ernest this and Ernest that in parts, and wants $2000 to $2200 for it, with wordage that says “ package deal only, please don’t ask me to part”. Same deal as the pros, ha ha

The most funniest I find in those deals are the throwing out of peoples names who supposedly tuned the gun, to help boost sales. I often wonder, and I’m going to use Ernest as an example, if he ever sees an ad that says “tuned by the man himself, E Rowe, and as Ernest is at home sipping on a beer reading the ad he’s thinking “I’ve never seen that gun before, ever!! Who is this fffnn. guy?!!”

When you sell a package you get the markup on all accessories. Usually to be a dealer you have to conform to certain threshold markups, those accessories are usually excluded from these distributorship rules. Chances are this might be the case with this particular vendor as he might not make much profit off one unit. Its essentially catering to those who are completely desperate and have money burning a hole. Personally I see so many better products on the market to even want to keep my foot in the door for waiting. As long as people keep buying and crying this will be common practice.

I am finding it difficult to accept the pussy footing around naming the dealership.

It's not as if it's slander, if it's fact, then it should be able to be said.

I agree, I read the forum to learn from others about airguns because I can not afford to buy all the airguns that are on my wishlist. If someone has a problem with a gun or dealer, why be scared about sharing that with all of us.

While I get that there are some here that would like the vendor divulged, I see no need to possibly damage a vendor in the community, especially since this was MY opinion on this vendor.

You obviously have your opinions too. As stated in this thread; I will not be doing much dealing with this vendor due to my opinion. However, there is NO scamming here, just another way to sell more product. There are other places that don't do this, so I'll wait for one of them for an M3 to become available. If you're looking for an air gun you'll readily find out which vendors practice this approach, so I'm not seeing why anyone would name names in this instance. If this were a scam, I would definitely divulge the name. It isn't.

It can be said, but if the dealer advertises on this site, it will be deleted. We pay nothing for being members here. The advertisers own this site and therefore they control what is seen. Buyer beware.
