Since when has buying an air gun become like buying a car?

Been looking and adding my name to a few 'lists' for an FX M3 for months.

Talking with a buddy, he got an M3 almost immediately because he wanted one badly enough to buy "A package deal.". Tha package deal meant buying the M3 with a scope, rings, bipod, scope level and moderator....all things that I already have, why would I want "A package deal"? Ultimately spending WAY ore than he anticipated.

So, I called the vendor and was told that I could pick an M3 up right away, GREAT! Not so fast, you gotta buy "The package."

In essence, while my name was on the list at this vendor to by an M3, I could not because I didn't wish to pay for all of the extras that I didn't want or need. So, I wait.

Since when did buying an air gun become like buying a car? Every car has "A package" deal, they all have "options" that I either don't want or care to have, but I gotta buy them because that's how they're sold, package A, B, or C. To me, this is rather shady, getting a customer to buy items only to get one item really wanted. I will not do much business with this vendor going forward and I have bought thousands of dollars of wares from them, plus recommended friends as well....including the guy that bought "The package"!

Aggravating!

Rant over.

Hey Mike, I have a brand new M3 you can have for free (but you gotta buy my beachfront property in Nevada to get it!). SOOO tired of all the jacked up prices, business practices bordering on unethical and used equipment prices just shy of MSRP! I'm fortunate that I really love the guns I own & truly want for nothing. Like everyone else I have my "fantasy gun bucket list" talking from inside my head but my wife & wallet speaks more loudly. Hope you get your long awaited gun soon. Totally understand your frustration. Give me a shout sometime & Happy Thanksgiving to you & yours!

Not sure what configuration you're looking for, but bullet central still has some M3s in stock, pyramyd had a few still in stock yesterday (.30 & .35 I think), and I believe SPAW just got a shipment in as well and might still have a few left.

They are out there without markups or mandatory "combo deals"... but they trickle in sporadically and you have to be ready to pounce on them especially if you want one of the more popular configurations. Seems that the .30s, .35s, and compacts are slower selling than the .177/.22/.25 600mm & 700mm versions. I had backordered a 700mm .22 M3 in June from Utah, and 2 weeks after placing the backorder I picked up a used but like new .22 700mm from the classifieds here for slightly less than the price of a new one, and about 3 weeks ago I picked up an M3 Compact from Bullet Central. I wanted the compact in .22 but Bullet Central only had .25 compacts, and without knowing how long it might be before I found a .22 compact in stock I bought the .25 compact and bought a .22 liner from Utah and a .22 caliber conversion kit from Huma and sold off the .25 parts.

A couple weeks ago Utah finally emailed me to let me know my 700mm .22 was in from the June backorder... I had forgot to cancel the backorder with them. I let the next person in line have it.

Keep your eyes open at all the various dealers, and remember they do pop up for reasonable prices in the classifieds here from time to time. And if you think the air rifle market supply is bad, be thankful it's not worse than it is... supply for air rifle stuff might be a little tight but the prices have held fairly steady. The air rifle side of things is nowhere near as bad as bad as the ammo and reloading supply situation on the powder burner side. ($110 for 1k primers plus $30 for hazmat charges, limit one per customer? No thanks!)

I have my own ideas, but I really would like to know the name of the vendor who told you this.

That seems way out of line to me, and I would like to make sure that I give this vendor NO business in the future.

Unfortunately we as buyers are guilty of creating this mess, why you ask...because someone is willing to pay that amount!!! If we consumers stop buying then excessive costs would stop. Greed has become a commodity and the sellors are using it to there advantage. We are led to believe we need it, we deserve it, we are entitled to it, there for we havevthe right to have it, whether we know it or not. Consumers have created this mess, so either stop buying or stop complaining. Those are our only choices!!

The last M3 I bought was indeed a car, in fact, I owned 3 BMW M3 cars. Except for the Royale/Boss platform, I have no interest in FX rifles, but I understand your frustration. As others have said, it's all about supply and demand. FX has done a great job of marketing its products, so you have to play their game if you want one. As with your car analogy, their time will pass. I would encourage you to broaden your search. Their are better products for less cost. Just my opinion.

I have expressed these exact sentiments many times. Hoarders and 'Gotta' Have-it's' are a big part of the higher cost problem for non-essential items. Stop buying and see what happens. But that's not going to happen, so stop whining.

While frustrating and to me somewhat unethical, I do not wish to divulge the vendor as they sell other air gun related product that isn't a "Package deal." Although I will definitely limit my dealings with this vendor.

Since there are buyers willing to take that plunge, its just not right for me to damage a reputation because I believe that it isn't quite right. If this was a total scammer, then I would divulge, this isn't a real scammer, just a gouger (using words provided in this thread)

High end PCPs are a luxury and priced according to what many would pay. I don't believe anyone is buying a PCP at this level is doing it for survival purposes. So? If you believe the prices are too high or the "packaged PCPs" are not what you want, just don't buy, simple as that. I still find it hard to believe that some lineup to order 2.5k PCPs... God Bless America.

I would like to know the actual sales numbers of FX, Daystate and Brocock. Personally I think FX is way ahead ,and Daystate and Brocock is currently overpriced for what you get. I think the market will adjust and we will see Daystate and Brocock lower their prices. I like all 3, and if I were more of a bench shooter than a hunter I would have held out for an M3 instead of buying 2 Mavericks this past year. I know the website you're talking about now and that is the way he chooses to sell it. That gun is built way too heavy for my taste, but he has the right to do that.

when, since they wanted to jack the price up out of reach of the regular guy like everything else ... they cater to the upper middle class because thats where the money is .. do you need all that, no .. the average person doesnt need a full competition ready setup .. in fact the average person cant set up on a 'real shot' on small game past 50 or so yards offhand ... but no, you need to spend thousands on 'the package' and rests and other things so you can shoot the wings off a fly at 100 from a bench like your target master joe and get online and tug each other like anybody with less doesnt count lol ...
