I agree. It's just so damn hard to get the rabbits to wear them.

When hunting even shooting a little bird in the quiet woods makes you realize how loud the impact sound really is.

Most guns especially guns with adjustable regulator can be tuned to be very very quiet. Longer the barrel the higher the power it can be shot at and still be very quiet. Each gun/model is a little different but generally speaking longer the barrel, higher the reg/air pressure and lower the hammer force the quieter the gun is. Add a good quality moderator the shot can literally be imperceptible besides the impact of the projectile. 

I only have 3 PCPs but by far the quietest is my P35 with half hair curlers covered with felt inbetween the baffles. With 3 it is about 75 db and it's under 70db with 4. It's a 25 caliber shooting FTTs at 875fps - about 35 fpe. The hair curler mod costs about $1.33 and a few minutes work. 3 curler/baffle combinations increase the gun length about 1/2: inch and using 4 increases it over an inch. But it is still short. I think mine is 29 inches with a 1 inch LOP extension and 3 curler/baffles. (450mm barrel)

My Avenger is well over 100 db without a moderator and only about 95 with one. It shoots 25.4 grain FX pellets at 930 fps. Even turned down it would not be as quiet as the P35.

My Prod is about 85 db. It is tuned up to over 700 fps on FTTs so 16-17 fpe.

When I shoot the P35 the sound of the pellet hitting the pellet trap is louder than the gun.

I will agree the Uragan King is quite but not as quite as my Red Wolf was but the king is 22 without a moderator and the wolf was .177 with a moderator. The king also has a neat sound to it.

My quietest air rifle is the 177 Brocock Bantam Sniper with a Donnyfl Sumo going 910-915 fps. Most other rifles I own have some sort of ping or action noise which can be inherent in design or higher caliber. Although I wonder how quiet some of the FX airguns would be in 177. Have no doubts about the Daystate claims I'm reading here either

You can add this AZ tuned Rapid mk ll. 20 cal to list.with the custom full bull barrel shroud all you hear is a slight ping from hammer. That's shooting Jsb 15.9 heavy @ 900 fps. 

Quietest pcp? A broken one.

Second quietest? One that shoots a pellet out at 1 fps


Jokes aside, lower powered .177's with a fat can will suffice in taking the crown here.

I'm sure power makes a difference but I have not measured it yet. Maybe I will. Avenger is pretty easy to tune. But I was really surprised at the effect of the hair curler mod did to the P35. Stock at it's ~35fpe power it was about 85db. Simply inserting half hair curlers covered with felt between 3 stock baffles gets it down to 75db. Add a fourth and it's under 70db. All my guns are shrouded but none is close to this quiet. My Prod has about half the power and is 85db - same as the P35 stock.

My point is just that it is not all power. Design of the baffle or moderator makes a big difference too. I prefer "fixing" the moderator because it has a lot less impact on the length of the gun. Cheaper too.

The taipan veteran long I use to have with a sumo were the most quiet pcp I have used .. the .22 shooting 18 at 1000fps n the .25 at 60 fp with 34g ... now I have uragans n the .22 shooting 25g slugs at 960fps with a sumo I only hear the hammer strike.. same for the .25 ..I have to assume that the new cricket .. with it's shrouded barrel n a sumo should work equally well..

Of all the ones I've owned, Daystate Pulsar .22 with Huggett moderator.

WAYYYY too many variables to call this one. Muzzle velocity, power, suppressor, efficiency, and caliber all play into this equation. I have a highly modified AF Condor in .25 that makes 81fpe at the muzzle. I use a DonnyFL Ronin in .30 to quiet it down. The slug hitting the target is louder than the rifle firing off. But it's still not "quiet" as the term in and of itself is ambiguous and subject to interpretation. In the EU, the limit is 12fpe. I would imagine those are super quiet, especially if suppressed. But if those guys stood next to my gun, they would probably comment on how loud it is. Then I would take off the suppressor, and let them hear what 81fpe sounds like un-throttled. Like I said, it's subject to interpretation. The only way to truly find out would be to set a standard with various rifles. Hypothetically...... 5 or 6 of the most popular high end rifles set at identical power settings in identical calibers achieving identical velocities. But at that point, the "bark" being silenced will depend solely on the suppression system being used. Then the question becomes, what's the quietest suppressor, and not what's the quietest rifle. Just my $.02 however.
