SightMark Citadel 3-18x50 LR2 Riflescope

I have Athlons too not really a fan due to their price of admission that's all. if they are on a very good sale even I buy them.

The variances appear in many different brands of scopes within the same model levels not only in Vector and Discovery brands.

Even the Sightron SIII got duds believe it or not lucky I paid half price and lifetime warranty otherwise it's Sightron clobbering time!!!

Anybody have any knowledge / experience with this scope? I've been thinking about one that is slightly higher mag than 4-16, not too long or heavy and in the $300 - $500 range and FFP

I have that very scope. I paid about $400 for it and I think I overpaid. It's definitely a good scope but not a great scope in my opinion I can only compare it to my SWFA SS 16x and my athlon Argos 6-24 and some UTGs. If you could get it for less than what I paid it probably be okay. I brought the sightmark having really high hopes for it based on experience with a very low power crossbow sightmark that really blew me away.

I would say it's a little less clear than the SWFA and the athlon. I do like the reticle on the sitemark a lot though. It is much better than the athlon which gets kind of fat at the higher magnifications. My main issue with the SWFA though is the contrast if you have any bright lighting I don't have a lens shade on it and it definitely needs one.

Honestly The SWFA SS 3-15x42 sure ain't nothing to brag about. The fixed SWFA SS 16x kinda sux and the 20x REALLY REALLY REALLY SUX! SHAME SHAME SHAME ON SWFA!!!

Even the $209.00 (before further discount that brings it down to sub $200) A6 4.5-27x50 ($393.29 MSRP) and $198.00 2.5-15x50 ($359.19 MSRP) are nicer scopes when being overly critical comparing all of them side by side at the same power levels. I really think the SWFA SS 3-15x42 should retail for $299 MAX not $699 based on optical clarity compared to MANY other scopes I compared it to.

There's no comparison to any of the sub $1200 Athlons to the A6 either when it comes to clarity and brightness and eyebox friendliness both of these A6s are nicer. Even the $900+ Bushnell Forge glass isn't as nice as the A6.

I was gonna buy a lot more of the Japan Bushnell TAC 4.5-30x50 25 yard focus on sale for $599 ($1400+ retail) and ordered 30 then stopped and compared it to the $229 at the time ($393.29 MSRP) 4.5-27x50 A6 then bought more A6s since the Bushnell simply weren't clear all the way to 30x.

Barra 3x15x50 (bottom) $200 for a $800 scope.
